Vayle's gaze narrows as he locks eyes with the Redbrand leader, Slobomir, who dares to challenge their presence in the town. The tension in the air is palpable as the confrontation escalates, and the bystanders scramble to find safety, retreating to the safety of their homes.
With a steady voice, Vayle addresses Slobomir and his companions, his tone firm and resolute. "You may think you hold power in this town, but you are sorely mistaken. The people of Phandalin deserve peace and freedom from your tyranny. I am not one to back down from a fight, especially when it comes to protecting the innocent."
Simon stands alongside Vayle, his magical energies crackling in the air, ready to defend against the impending threat. Sildar, though outnumbered, remains resolute, ready to fight alongside his newfound allies.
Vayle's hand moves instinctively to the hilt of his trusty weapon, his eyes blazing with determination. "So, if it's a fight you seek, then it's a fight you shall have. But know this: if you continue down this path, the consequences will be dire. Step aside, leave this town, and never return. That is your only chance for mercy."
As the Redbrands draw their weapons, preparing for the clash, Vayle's senses sharpen, his focus narrowing solely on the immediate threat. He waits for the townspeople to find safety, ensuring their well-being is secured before the battle commences. "Make your move, but remember, I fight for the people of Phandalin," Vayle declares, his voice laced with a steely resolve. "And I won't let your reign of fear continue any longer. Prepare yourselves, Redbrands. This is your final warning."
With tensions reaching their peak, the clash between Vayle, Simon, Sildar, and the Redbrands becomes inevitable.

Slobomir makes the first move, and tries to strike Vayle, but the Ranger parries with his two scimitars. One of the Redbrand charges at Sildar, but the Veteran is prepared, and after a scuffle, Sildar kills his foe. Another Redbrand charges at Simon, but he was already charging his arcane energy and he hurls an undulating, warbling mass of chaotic energy at his attacker. The Redbrand falls dead before he even got close to Simon.
Slobomir trade blows with Vayle, and it seems that the Redbrand leader is slowly getting the upper hand. At one point Slobomir strikes Vayle so hard that the Ranger looses both his weapon and falls to the ground. When Slobomir is ready to deliver the killing bow, a scimitar pierces his chest from the back. Behind him, is Trilena Stonehill, holding one of Vayle's scimitar with both hands. Slobomir falls dead to the side.
Trilena cries declaring that the Redbrand leader was the one that killed Thel Dendrar. She lets go of the scimitar and starts to cry inconsolably. Vayle rushes to the innkeeper's wife and hug her tenderly. He tells her that she did the right thing, and that she saved his life. He tries to calm her down by holding her close to him.
As Vayle embraces Trilena, he holds her tightly, providing a comforting presence amidst the chaos that just unfolded. He speaks soothingly, his voice filled with empathy and understanding. "You were incredibly brave, Trilena. You saved not only my life but potentially the lives of others in this town. Your actions were necessary, and Thel Dendrar would be proud of your courage."
Together, they stand amidst the aftermath of the battle, their hearts heavy with both relief and grief. Vayle gently wipes away Trilena's tears, his touch offering solace and support. "We will bring justice to those responsible for Thel Dendrar's death. The Redbrands will be held accountable for their actions, and Phandalin will no longer suffer under their tyranny."
He takes a deep breath, steeling himself and assessing the situation. With the immediate threat dealt with, Vayle turns his attention to the fallen Redbrands, ensuring they are no longer a danger to the town. Slobomir's lifeless body lies motionless on the ground, a testament to the cost of their defiance.
Vayle retrieves his fallen scimitars, gripping them tightly once more. He gazes at Trilena, his eyes filled with determination. "We will make sure that Thel Dendrar's sacrifice was not in vain. Together, we will put an end to the Redbrands and restore peace to Phandalin."
As the townspeople cautiously emerge from their hiding places, witnessing the aftermath of the confrontation, Vayle's voice carries with authority and reassurance. "Phandalin will rise above this darkness, united and strong. We will not let fear dictate our lives. Let it be known that we will face any threat that comes our way."
In the midst of the chaos, Vayle offers a comforting smile to Trilena, his voice unwavering. "We have each other's back, Trilena. We will protect this town and its people together. You are not alone in this fight."
As the dust settles and the weight of the moment lingers, Vayle stands tall, ready to lead Phandalin into a future free from the clutches of the Redbrands. And with the support of newfound allies and the resilient spirit of the townspeople, he is confident that they can overcome any obstacle that lies ahead.

Toblen runs from the inn to fetch Trilena. Vayle tells Toblen that he needs to be strong for her, and that she needs to rest. He whispers to his ears. "Tell the townsfolk to stay indoors, we are going to take out the Redbrands very soon."
Toblen nods, his face filled with concern for his wife. He understands the importance of keeping the townsfolk safe and relays Vayle's message to the other residents of Phandalin. The word spreads quickly, and the townspeople huddle together in their homes, finding solace in each other's presence.
Vayle watches as Toblen rushes back to Trilena's side, offering his unwavering support.

As Toblen takes a shaken Trilena back to the inn. Vayle points to the shell shocked young Redbrand recruit. Vayle tell the young man that it is in his best interest that he follows him to the Townmaster's hall. Once inside, Vayle guarantees that if he tell them everything he knows about the Redbrand, specially what's inside of Tresendar Manor, that he can walk free.
The young Redbrand recruit, trembling with fear, looks into Vayle's eyes, unsure of what lies ahead. He hesitates for a moment, contemplating his options. The weight of his loyalty to the Redbrands conflicts with the promise of freedom and escape from the brewing confrontation.
Finally, realizing that his life may be at stake, the young recruit nods reluctantly. He takes a deep breath and begins to reveal fragments of information, his voice barely above a whisper. He explains that Tresendar Manor, the hideout of the Redbrands, holds their secret meeting place and is where they keep their ill-gotten treasures. He shares a rough layout of the manor, indicating possible entrances and areas of interest.
Though the recruit's knowledge is limited, Vayle recognizes the value of even the smallest details. He assures the recruit that his cooperation is appreciated and promises to ensure his safe departure from Phandalin once the situation has been resolved.
Vayle turns to Sildar and Simon, sharing the information they have gathered. They discuss their plan to infiltrate Tresendar Manor, using the recruit's insights to their advantage. With a clear objective in mind, they prepare themselves for the dangerous task that lies ahead.
Their determination, combined with the knowledge they've acquired, fuels their resolve to dismantle the Redbrand threat once and for all. They understand that this battle goes beyond mere survival—it is a fight for the safety and well-being of Phandalin and its people.

Vayle tells Sildar that he should remain in the Townmaster's Hall, just in case. He also tells the young Redbrand that he can turn to good, and stay with Sildar and help him keep the town safe. Vayle and Simon finishes preparations and head to the secret entrance to the manor. On the way, he whistles loudly, signaling Ripper that her help is needed.
Vayle, Simon, and Ripper stand by the secret entrance to Tresendar Manor, taking a moment to gather their thoughts and steel their resolve. The anticipation hangs in the air as they prepare to face the Redbrands head-on. Vayle glances at Simon, silently exchanging a nod of understanding. They know that caution and strategy are paramount in this endeavor. They carefully study the area around the entrance, ensuring they have a clear view of any potential threats or activity.
Ripper, the faithful companion and keen-eyed partner, keeps a watchful eye on their surroundings, ready to alert them to any approaching danger. Her presence brings a sense of reassurance and companionship to Vayle and Simon, strengthening their resolve. Vayle takes a deep breath, focusing his thoughts on the task ahead. He reminds himself of the innocent lives affected by the Redbrands' tyranny and the need to restore peace to Phandalin. With his senses heightened and his determination unwavering, he takes the first step towards the entrance, leading the way for Simon and Ripper to follow.

Vayle with Ripper's help look around the entrance to have a better idea of its purpose. The passage is an excellent way to smuggle people or goods in and out of Phandalin without being seen. He also finds tracks that indicate that some bugbears has recently visited this place. "Simon, we have some one eyed monster and some bugbears in there. Are you ready?" The young man nods.

As Vayle, Simon, and Ripper make their way through the secret entrance of Tresendar Manor, they step into a dimly lit cavern. The air is heavy with a cold, damp breeze that carries the unsettling scent of decay, hinting at the dark secrets concealed within the manor's depths. In the darkness, Simon struggles to discern the details of their surroundings, relying on Vayle and Ripper to guide him. But Vayle's keen elven eyes pierce through the gloom, allowing him to make out the shape of a lurking figure amidst the shadows.
A nothic, the twisted and grotesque guardian of this part of the hideout, attempts to conceal itself from intruders. Its pale, milky eyes peer out from a cluster of matted hair, its hideous form hunched and twisted. Vayle's sharp senses immediately detect its presence, and he prepares himself for a confrontation. Ripper, ever watchful, locks her gaze upon the nothic, her instincts honed by her time in the wild. The wolf's muscles tense, ready to protect her companions should the need arise.
The cavern is enveloped in darkness, save for the faint glimmers of ambient light that barely illuminate the surroundings. Shadows dance and flicker across the rugged walls, lending an eerie atmosphere to the encounter. As Vayle and the nothic lock eyes, a moment of tension hangs in the air. The nothic, driven by its insatiable hunger for knowledge, assesses the intruders before deciding on its course of action. Vayle's heart beats steadily as he prepares for the imminent clash. Silence permeates the cavern, broken only by the soft echoes of their breathing and the distant sound of water dripping somewhere in the depths. Each member of the party waits, poised for action, as the encounter unfolds.
In this dark and foreboding place, the fate of Vayle, Simon, and Ripper intertwines with the nothic. Their mission to confront the Redbrands and uncover the truth about Tresendar Manor hangs in the balance. The outcome of this encounter will shape their journey, testing their skills and resolve in the face of danger. With determination in his eyes and his weapons at the ready, Vayle prepares to face the nothic, knowing that the fate of Phandalin and the safety of its inhabitants rest on his shoulders.

Both Vayle and Simon understand the nature of the Nothic. Vayle steps forward. "We mean you no harm, we just seek safe passage."
"This one can help you. If you feed this one..." A disembodied voice sounds in their head.
"You are hungry. What do you eat?" Says Simon. He has heard of Nothics, he just never thought he would meet one.
"Ahhh Fresh Meat...." They heard in their head.
"Aha. If you will excuse us for a moment." Vayle says to the creature. He signals Simon to follow back out. Vayle brings the body of the dead Redbrands into the cave. It is grisly work, but he would not have anyone else do it.

Vayle notices heaped at the bottom among broken and well-gnawed bones is what appears to be the half-eaten body of Thel Dendrar. He makes a mental note to perhaps come back later to claim his body for his family. "The creature said to go north, it might be referring to the storage area ahead." Says Simon as he crosses eat over the north bridge.
This area is the north end of a large natural cavern, but it has been finished with dressed stone block walls and a flagstone floor. Several barrels are stored against the walls here, along with a number of empty crates, straw for packing, hammers, pry bars, and nails. The cavern continues for some distance to the south. You can make out several passages that open up off the larger cavern, and what looks like a deep pit or crevasse in the floor.
"Looks like just an storage area. Let's look around. There has to be something here." Says Vayle.

They both find secret entrances in the storage area. Simon open the secret door to the east. It is a hallway that goes south. Vayle open the secret door to the west, and it looks like a stair going north and up to a second floor. "The Nothic said to go north, I think we should take the western passage." Concludes Simon.

With utmost care, Vayle eases open the door at the top of the stairs, revealing Glasstaff's Quarters beyond. The room is dimly lit, casting long shadows that dance across the walls. Vayle's keen senses detect the faint scent of ink and parchment mixed with a hint of herbal potions, a typical mage's den.
As he peeks inside, his eyes adjust to the dim lighting, allowing him to take in the details without alerting Glasstaff to his presence. The room appears modest, yet organized. Bookshelves line the walls, filled with tomes and scrolls, while a small writing desk is cluttered with ink pots, quills, and scattered parchments.
A soft glow emanates from a crackling fireplace, casting flickering light across the room. In the center, a table is strewn with alchemical components, vials, and half-completed experiments, revealing the arcane nature of Glasstaff's work. Papers covered in scrawled notes and diagrams are scattered across the table, hinting at ongoing research and hidden secrets.
Vayle's gaze sweeps across the room, searching for any signs of Glasstaff. His eyes finally settle on a figure hunched over the desk, its back turned to him. The figure's long robes and the distinct shape of a staff resting against the desk suggest that this is Glasstaff, engrossed in his work, oblivious to Vayle's presence.

Vayle communicates his plan to Simon in a hushed whisper, ensuring they are both on the same page. Ripper, the wolf, crouches low and stealthily slinks toward the doorway of Glasstaff's quarters, her movements silent and deliberate. She positions herself strategically, ready to block any potential escape routes.
Meanwhile, Vayle capitalizes on Iarno's deep focus, taking advantage of the distraction provided by the mage's engrossment in his work. With deft and practiced movements, he reaches out and carefully plucks the glass staff from its place next to the desk, ensuring not to make a sound that might alert Glasstaff.
Stepping back, Vayle holds the staff securely in his grip, a newfound weapon in his hands. Taking a deep breath to steady himself, he steps forward, his presence finally making itself known. The sound of his footfalls breaks the silence, causing Iarno to startle and turn around, his eyes widening with surprise and realization.
Vayle, standing tall and poised, meets Glasstaff's gaze with determination. The room fills with a charged atmosphere as the two adversaries lock eyes, each assessing the other's intentions. The stolen glass staff, a symbol of Vayle's intrusion into Iarno's carefully guarded domain, serves as a visible reminder of the power shift that is about to unfold.
Aware of the potential threat he now faces, Iarno quickly takes stock of the situation, his mind racing to assess his options. It becomes evident that the element of surprise has shifted, and he must now contend with the consequences of being caught off guard.

Vayle swiftly tosses the glass staff to Simon, who deftly catches it, holding it with a determined grip. The transfer of the staff symbolizes the shift in power, as Simon now becomes the holder of the mage's own weapon.
With a subtle nod of his head, Ripper, the wolf companion, moves closer to Glasstaff, her presence looming over him, a silent reminder of the consequences he faces. Vayle, gripping one of his scimitars tightly, takes a step forward, his gaze fixed on Glasstaff, demanding answers.
In a low, commanding voice, Vayle presents the ultimatum to Glasstaff, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. Glasstaff, visibly shaken and realizing the dire circumstances he finds himself in, nods in reluctant agreement. He understands that his life hangs in the balance and compliance is his only chance at survival.
Vayle wastes no time, leading Glasstaff back to the storage area they came from, ensuring he is securely bound to prevent any escape attempts. The location chosen, near the edge of the crevasse, serves as a stark reminder of the consequences awaiting Glasstaff if he chooses to withhold information.
Standing firm, Vayle makes his intentions clear to Glasstaff, presenting a straightforward deal: full disclosure in exchange for his life. Any attempt to deceive or hide information will result in a fate far worse than death. Glasstaff, overwhelmed by fear and desperation, agrees to the terms, his voice trembling as he begins to spill the secrets he had guarded so closely.
With a mix of fear and desperation, Glasstaff divulges everything he knows, each word punctuated by the threat of being discarded into the crevasse to meet a grisly end as Nothic food. He provides details about the Redbrands' operations, their allies, and their hideouts, as well as his own involvement and motivations.
Vayle listens intently, weighing each piece of information, assessing the truthfulness of Glasstaff's words. He remains resolute, his determination to rid Phandalin of the Redbrand menace unwavering. This unexpected turn of events proves to be a breakthrough, as the secrets once held by Glasstaff now lay exposed.
As Glasstaff's confession comes to an end, the weight of his own treachery settling upon him, he awaits his fate, fully aware of the consequences he faces. Vayle, armed with newfound knowledge, contemplates the path forward.

A cold breeze fills this large natural cavern, carrying with it the faint scent of decaying flesh. A crevasse divides the cavern and is flanked by two rough stone columns that support the twenty-foot-high ceiling. Two arched wooden bridges span the chasm.

"What about these fresh meat?" Vayle asks the creature. Persuasion: 13

"This one can help you!! This one know their secrets." The disembodied voice sounds excited now. "The one they call Glasstaff is... North..."
"Who is Glasstaff?" The name somehow picked Simon's interest.
"That one has magic..." The Nothic comes down from where it was hiding, and takes the bodies down to the crevasse in the middle of the cave. "This one will now eat."
The group slowly make their way north of the cave. Vayle takes a peak inside the crevasse. Perception: 16

At the top of the stairs, they see a door that open to the west side. Vayle tells Simon to remain quiet. He will try to see if he stealthily take a peek at the other side. Stealth: 13
