Wow. Makes std array viable. I'll see what I can do.
When you say "any race or class" do you mean ANY or WOTC approved? Cuz "Exiled Illithid" is available for Homebrew. Though I was thinking Thri-Kreen. And reception? If the race can't pass for human will they be attacked on sight?
Useful to know.
Character Applications:
Name: Ka-Cha Khan (Seeker of Knowledge in Kreen, plus King -to impress the humans)
Pronouns: He/Him/It (He's aware that most vertebrates have no clue how to tell Kreen gender)
Race: Thri-Kreen
Class: Monk
(I need a judgement call from the DM. Thri-Kreen Carapace is defined as "While you aren’t wearing armor, your carapace gives you a base Armor Class of 13 + your Dexterity modifier." And Monk Unarmored defense says "Beginning at 1st level, while you are wearing no armor and not wielding a shield, your AC equals 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Wisdom modifier." I added the Carapace value to the AC since it wasn't included in the system. But do you think Carapace counts as armor and that's why it wasn't included in the AC? Or did they drop the ball and Carapace is supposed to be included in the AC calculation?
Also, can a hand axe be re-skinned as Chat'kcha (the traditional Thri-Kreen weapon)? Same damage, range, etc. we don't have to keep the "boomerang effect" if you don't want to. What skill would be needed to make these crystalline weapons? Glassblowers tools? Jewlers tools? Potter's tools (ceramic)? Smith's tools?)
Personal Goal: Grow in power and go back to seek his fortune among the Kreen. IE: Monster Slayer (a tooth necklace or three is fine, instead of heads. Thri-Kreen babes love that).
Personality/Backstory: Ka-Cha grew up in the deserts and savannas like other Thri-Kreen but followed a more structured path. He heard that the ruins of Drakkenheim had challenging monsters and tbat sounded like a good way to prove his worth.
(I've seen comix of a "good" Illithid (mind reaver, iirc), so that was included as tongue in cheek)
Personality/Backstory: Sarűmir was orphaned from a young age, but he was taken in by a group of thieves that had ties with the Queen's Men. He was raised as a master of trickery and stealth, lurking in the shadows to steal and plunder. But then, the Queen's Men turned on them and ransacked the hideout of his group, killing many members. He fled from the chaos, vowing to destroy the Queen of Thieves once and for all. Many years later, he fell in with an order of Blood Hunters, and they taught him their fell magics in order for him to more easily defeat the faction that ruined his life, but in doing so he had to sacrifice a part of himself. He is now cold and uncaring, and he is not above doing harm to those close to him to accomplish his goals. After so many years away, however, he has returned to Drakkenheim, hoping to kill the Queen and settle his score…

I'm not the DM but I can answer the question on why DDB didn't automatically include it.
Some spells and class features give you a different way to calculate your AC. If you have multiple features that give you different ways to calculate your AC, you choose which one to use.
So RAW it's either the Carapace of Monk's Unarmored Defense. Hence why DDB didn't stack them.
But of course the DM is free to change that if they want so I can't answer the other part of your question.
Sure!!! I think the boomerang effect is good to keep. It's like a throwing star right? It would be pretty hard to use if you had to keep picking it back up again. I think glassblower's tools because it is made from Kreen venom and sand (and sand makes glass!).
By the way, as a clarification, with the rolling should 1's be rerolled at all? I've seen different ways people are doing it.
Oops sorry yeah I didn't clarify. I would say not rerolled, but since other people did already I'm not going to penalize them so it's fine. It doesn't matter.

I took a little liberty with the character application. I'm sorry. It's my flaw...
Stone face dog, swirling fog Gates open on the dark, dark night Standing stone, skull and bone Dead witness to an unseen fight Beat the drum, beat the drum Beat forever on the endless march Stricken dumb, cut and run Somebody's screaming and the sky is dark
Dabbert Hahft Fighter Variant Human Polearm Master Soldier Background He/Him/His
March or croak, flame and smoke Burn forever in eternal pain Charge and fall, bugle call Bone splinter in the driving rain Horses scream, Viking dream Drowned heroes in a lake of blood Armoured fist, severed wrist Broken spears in a sea of mud
The nightmare.
The nightmare never ended.
It came every night like a lover, like a fiend, creeping into his sleeping chamber to wrap him in its cold embrace. He had survived the catastrophe, the day that Drakkenheim had been all but wiped off the face of the world, and yet still, somehow, here he was some fifteen years later, a walking shell, a casualty of the cataclysm.
He remembered the screams. He remembered the mayhem, the refugees fleeing the city. The tear streaked, soot covered faces of mothers, of children wandering aimless without parents, of horses dragging their leads with no wagons. He remembered the smoke, and the falling ash, and the black rain, and the dying that had gone on for weeks and weeks and weeks and had never seemed to end.
The corruption that had crawled from the birthing chamber of the ruined city, midwifed by a force cosmic and unfathomable...
Who could have imagined such a thing as a star losing its hold on the heavens and crashing to the earth?
No. Not a nightmare. It was not a nightmare. It was a memory, and it haunted his dreams every night, that fiendish lover that crawled into his bed and held him tight. Suffocating tight...
Dabbert Hahft was born to poor parents, Hansferd and Ilene Hahft on a small farm outside of Drakkenheim. One of his earliest memories (a memory that, to this day, feels so familiar...too familiar...almost like deja vu...) was taking his father's sword down from above the hearth and swinging it in the yard. It was too big, too heavy...and then his dad caught him and beat the shit out of him and told him that no son of his would ever, ever, take up a sword in anger. After that, the sword went back above the hearth and remained there for as long as Dabbert could remember. At least until the star fell.
He toiled on the farm his whole life, getting a mediocre education, but growing strong in the fields and learning that which only hard work and hard living can teach you. He learned to swing tools and work farm implements, skills that would ready him for work as a soldier later. He learned the land and nature, and how to survive in hard conditions. It made him resourceful and tough.
It wasn't all bad, though. His parents loved him, and he learned much from both of them. He grew and matured, and fell in love with Rebecca Larkdusk, a love that persists to this day, even though it's been so long since he has seen her. When he was old enough, though barely more than a boy and much to the dismay of his parents, he left home to take up the sword, at the protests of his father, as a soldier in the civil war. He learned the basics of warfare, of how to fight with a sword, shield, and most importantly, a spear. He was a master with any polearm, though he preferred a spear, and decent with a shield, always honing his defensive abilities to better protect those around him. Once the Corruption came, he tried to switch organizations; no longer satisfied with his job as a run-of-the-mill soldier, he aspired to return to Drakkenheim and find allegiance with a group that had ideals like his; ideals to rid the land of the corruption, to stop the ceaseless violence fueled by the delerium, by lawlessness, by the absence of the king and queen.
To return order. To return peace. To fix everything broken by the star, from the families and homes to the businesses and churches and the city.
And most of all...to stop the dream. Nightmare.
Memory...
Mother earth, mother earth Enfold you in her cold embrace Sinking down, killing ground Worm crawling on your cold white face Win or lose, naught to choose All men are equal when their memory fades No-one knows, friends or foes If Valhalla lies beyond the grave
Mechanical Specifics:
Note- I don't know what level we're starting at, but I assume Level 1. All of the following information discusses the what direction I'll take this character.
Dabbert will be built around battlefield control. His build normally relies on a halberd, but I think for this iteration I'll go back to his roots and make a more hoplite character; a spear and shield as his primary combat equipment, with Polearm Master augmenting the spear and Shield Master augmenting the shield. I'll eventually give him Sentinel as well to give him that extra little boost to add to the defensive / battlefield control build I'm aiming for.
For fighting style, I'll choose either Defense or Protection, and for subclass, I'll pick Battle Master. I love the mechanics Battle Master gives this character and this build for battlefield control.
I tend to focus on Feats, so depending how far this campaign goes, he could pick up Feats as opposed to ASI in the future.
Dabbert will probably start as a Fighter, then pick up 3 levels of Rogue, then put everything else into Fighter, but this will be a discussion I have with the DM before solidifying that plan.
Roleplay Specifics:
Dabbert is usually played as confident and very tactical / strategic in a fight, and will usually try to 'lead' in any battle, though isn't too headstrong if someone else wants to reigns. Otherwise, he does not see himself as the leader of a party. He is a soldier, accustomed to taking orders on some level. Depending on his starting level, his rank may have been higher in his life as a soldier, but he won't be trying to wrest control of the party from anyone else.
His loyalty is to the party and to the mission. I typically play him as neutral good, though sometimes he manifests some more lawful aspects, depending on the situation. He simply tries to do right as he sees it, and todo the things it takes to protect those he is loyal to, and the innocents he has been entrusted to protect.
Other Information:
I'm not sure if Dabbert's family and love interest are still alive by the time this campaign starts. We can figure out what to do with these NPCs together.
Additionally, Dabbert has existed in multiple other campaigns. He's usually my go to character for a grittier campaign, and Drakkenheim is up there on that list I'm sure. The italicized parts above are referencing the strange 'multiverse' of Dabbert existing in multiple other realities. In this instance, the fallen star and Delirium are a convenient vehicle for the story.

Juniper Summers in Drakkenheim - Mind and Matter Delphine Bennett in TheDark Below Ilmrae Zolier in Dragon Heist - One Hell of a Summer Loralai Darkleaf in The Storm King's Thunder Eris Tourmaline in An Adventure in the Mountains Circe Somerset in Candlekeep Mysteries
Personality/Backstory: Standing just over five feet, Juniper usually holds herself with a earnest, grounded demeanour. Somewhat shy, the half-elf is a bit of an odd duck even in her druidic circle. While her peers and elders focus their efforts on the earth, in trying to find ways to stall the effects that the meteoric showers rained upon the land some fifteen years ago, Juniper is drawn elsewhere: to the skies, where she watched the meteor sear its path across the open expanse.
Was it the gods' doing, a wrathful repercussion to some unknown mortal transgresion? Or a heralding of something far worse that was yet to arrive? Those unanswered questions and more gradually encroached into the half-elf's mind, spurred on by the nightmares that visited her nearly every night. Until, eventually, it was all consuming. The fear and anxiety of why became impossible to ignore. Against her circle's wishes and warnings, the young druid has gone looking for answers in the only place she could think of: the heart of the crater. How she'll reach it, through all manner of dangers and treacherous land, she's not sure of just yet. Only that she must.

I took a little liberty with the character application. I'm sorry. It's my flaw...
Stone face dog, swirling fog
Gates open on the dark, dark night
Standing stone, skull and bone
Dead witness to an unseen fight
Beat the drum, beat the drum
Beat forever on the endless march
Stricken dumb, cut and run
Somebody's screaming and the sky is dark
Dabbert Hahft
Fighter
Variant Human
Polearm Master
Soldier Background
He/Him/His
March or croak, flame and smoke
Burn forever in eternal pain
Charge and fall, bugle call
Bone splinter in the driving rain
Horses scream, Viking dream
Drowned heroes in a lake of blood
Armoured fist, severed wrist
Broken spears in a sea of mud
Nightmare.
Memory...
Mother earth, mother earth
Enfold you in her cold embrace
Sinking down, killing ground
Worm crawling on your cold white face
Win or lose, naught to choose
All men are equal when their memory fades
No-one knows, friends or foes
If Valhalla lies beyond the grave

Name: Juniper Summers
Pronouns: She/Her
Race: Half-Elf (Wood)
Class: Druid
Personal Goal: Apocalyptic Vision
Personality/Backstory:
Standing just over five feet, Juniper usually holds herself with a earnest, grounded demeanour.
