Bowing out... I really AM in too many games already. Just got sucked in to applying here because they're all in a bit of a slump right now (probably due to notifications being broken) and because I love coming up with characters. Have fun all!
Character Application
Name: Maelqry Zaranski
Ability Scores: ((Rolled above. Would have liked more variance but I'll take it.))
Race/Subrace: Variant Human (Fey Touched)
Class/Subclass: Wizard - Order of Scribes
Alignment: Lawful Good - with reason.
Background: Prismari Student
Backstory: Young Maelqry Zaranski was born with a talent to parents who didn't understand it and didn't want to deal with it. The parents loved the child, after their fashion, but when his magical talents began to develop, at times with bothersome and costly results, they just couldn't cope. Fire erupting from his fingers more than once caused major damage the family had to find a way to pay to repair...
Enter Professor Victor Shadowgrave. The professor was willing to take young Maelqry Zaranski on as a servant / student and Maelqry has been at the professor's beck and call ever since. Maelqry half suspects this assignment is a bit of a graduation ceremony and as such has mixed feelings on it... He wants to do well and prove his worth but he's also unsure if he's ready to make his own way in life all alone. He feels he is quite capable at what he knows but also suspects there is a lot he doesn't know that he fears he needs to... ((This can obviously be tweaked, change or adjusted as needed. No idea if Professor Shadowgrave is even a Wizard or such but even if just a scholar perhaps he could still guide the nervous young student and give him a safe place to practice two common, poor parents could not? I like the idea of tying the young student wizard to the professor but honestly don't want to put TOO much effort into the backstory for fear you have other plans for the professor...))
Fears: Fear of not knowing the right things - No matter what he learns he fears the things he will REALLY need are forever just beyond him... Social Anxiety - Nice enough fella but a bit awkward, definitely afraid of public speaking... Much prefers to stay in the back of a crowd. Blindness - He lost an eye and developed a fear of losing the other and being blind. We'll leave how he lost the eye up in the air for know... Ladders - A totally irrational fear of ladders. No instigating cause, he just hates ladders. Always has. And since losing the eye it has kind of become intwined with his fear or blindness. He has a recurring nightmare of being stuck on a ladder either blind or in such darkness he may as well be, and being unable to feel the next rung up or down and thus just being trapped there... Wherever there is.
Horror Trinket: (Oh, there's a chart for this! Is there one for fears I'm not seeing?) An eye patch embroidered with a holy symbol... ((I would alter this to an eye patch with with an arcane rune embroidered upon it and have him wearing it over his empty left eye.))
Note: Honestly, I don't think I have ever played a wizard. Kind of why I chose to do one here. But fair warning, I do NOT know the best spells to take or anything but I figured that'll work well with him being a bit of a self-doubting noob student himself.
Just fireball and magic missile along with one super specialized spell that’s only intended to be for something ridiculously insignificant, yet can be game breaking
Backstory: Franz Janek is about 40 year old man from Orașnou village that are located near Balinok Mountains in Barovia. Born there, lived there his whole life. His village was quite well known for it's farming. He himself was a hunter and trapper that provided the village with game meat. Svalich woods to the south of the village provided a lot of deer and rabits for food, and also wolves, foxes and bears for their furs. After a very cruel winter, dwindling crop harvests, famine, power struggles some murders and loss of leadership, he decided that the village is not a nice place to stay, so Franz decided to leave it behind and look for fortune elsewhere. He really want's to come back to Orasnou and settle down again, but only when it is safe. Or he makes it safe, but for now he has to leave. For a while he traveled around, hunted, sold pelts as a traveling merchant. This was not very lucrative business, so he decided to try his luck in adventuring as he had heard it has good coin in it. This led him to Professor Victor Shadowgrave
Fears: Franz fears hunger, because it lead his village to it's ruined state. Also the undead, but more he fears the fact of becoming one, because he has seen enough of them and what it does to a once great person.
Horror Trinket: A wolf's head wrought in silver that is also a whistle
Character Sheet Link: will be provided later if you decide to add me

I don't have anything purchased, so I've put Champion fighter as a place holder, don't have selectad a feat or the outlander background. If you won't be sharing content, I will go with whatever I have. Regardless, kind of love this one.
So if sharing is not available, then he will be Champion with folk hero background and race will be changed to regular human.
Backstory: Fingal Seaspray was born beneath the azure waves of the Sapphire Sea, the child of the esteemed Sea Elf aristocracy. From an early age, he was enamored by tales of the surface world, featuring adventure, magic, and unknown lands. Fingal possessed a natural curiosity, often delving into the mystical arts, which led him to pursue wizardry in the ancient libraries submerged within coral reefs.
As he grew, Fingal discovered the ability to manipulate water and summon forth creatures of the sea, leaning towards the School of Conjuration. His talent for conjuring began with simple fish, evolving into the calling of mighty sea serpents. However, the depths of magic held more than he bargained for, and a chance encounter with a powerful artifact sent ripples across his destiny.
One stormy night, while scrying on distant lands, Fingal's spell went awry, drawing a tempest from the ocean's depths that sucked him into a rift between worlds. Dazed and disoriented, he found himself washed ashore in a dark, fog-laden forest, where the screams of souls lost to despair echoed through the night. Fingal was terrified but steadfast, knowing that the very fabric of magic was unpredictable. To escape this realm, he needed guidance and knowledge about these daunting lands.
It was in his search for answers that he came across Professor Victor Shadowgrave, a former scholar from the Material Plane. The professor, who had been collecting rare artifacts, recognized Fingal's potential. He shared tales of dark powers intertwined with the land of Barovia—the realm ruled by the dread vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich. Out of a deep-seated drive to conquer his fears and retrieve knowledge crucial for his studies, Fingal accepted a quest from Professor Shadowgrave to locate a mysterious relic nestled deep in the Misty Forest.
As Fingal prepares to embark on this harrowing journey, he is acutely aware of the dangers that await. The shadows whisper of torment and dread, yet he feels a fierce determination kindled within his heart. He hopes to not only uncover the secrets of Barovia but also find a way to harness its dark magic to protect his homeland and return home
Fears:
The fear of losing control over his magic, leading to dire consequences.
A deep-rooted fear of drowning, despite being a creature of the sea; it symbolizes his struggle with the uncertainties of dark magic.
Horror Trinket:
Fingal carries a small, intricately carved seashell pendant, a gift from his mother. Inside, it holds a piece of a crystalline tear from a mermaid—a reminder of both beauty and sorrow in the face of lurking darkness. When held, it resonates with the pulse of the sea, offering a moment of calm amidst chaos, but it sometimes shows visions of watery graves, hinting at his fears.
After some thinking, I think I'm going to have to rescind my application. I have a lot going on right now, and I think it best if the group be filled with those who have the time and energy to truly invest in the game. Thank you for the chance, and I hope to play with you all in the future!
