(Can I look at him whilst talking to him, to see if there are any keys/anything useful for picking locks on him that I might be able to swipe? Investigation: 12 - or if Perception would be more appropriate, add 1 to that result)
(Also, Westin comes across as though it's not his choice to release us. Can I make an insight check to see if he's actually being genuine? Insight: 10 - I'm not sure whether you'd prefer me just to do one thing at once in a single post?)
(One post is fine.)
You don't notice anything that may help you. Harbin seems like he has been telling the truth the whole time so far.
Petros will calm himself and try a different approach. Persuasion: 7 “Westin. I realize you hold the interests of this town above your own. I respect that. This town needs a strong leader like you Westin. A leader that can make the hard choices. Right now you have five dangerous and motivated people in cages. People who are willing to help you protect Phandalin. You cannot set us free of your own accord. Perhaps a key was carelessly left out, or (gesturing to Pops) a lock pick was misplaced….accidentally. Westin, let us help you!”
Harbin attention is now drawn to the bard. "What do you mean? You've seen the army Glasstaff has. He will stop at nothing and will destroy this town in the process. What sort of plan do you have?" Harbin still talking quietly as before.
"What's the alternative? You allow Glasstaff to extort the people of this town in any way he sees fit?" Petros notes the uneasy and furtive nature in which Westin responds. Looking past Westin, Petros asks "...Is Glasstaff here?"
"And what of the rest of us? What will become of us? Am I to be hanged too, all because the Townmaster didn't care enough about his town to grow a spine, and let it all burn at the hands of this wizard? What do you think will happen to you once he's done with this place? When you're surplus to requirements? It seems to me that releasing us is your only hope of ridding your precious town of its uninvited tyrant."
Silva takes a slightly more compassionate tone with Westin. "I need to return to my tribe. If you allow our escape from these cages I swear by Father Silvanus and the Earth Mother that I will free your tribe from this Glassstaff."
At this point, you all hear a door slam open. "Westin!" a voice calls out. Pops and Petros know the voice to be Glasstaff. The others have not yet encountered Glasstaff since the rest of you were arrested by Redbrands without Glasstaff there. "Shit," Harbin mutters before turning and heading back through the door. When the door opens, you see a few Redbrands, but Glasstaff is out of sight. Harbin closes the door behind him, but the conversation carries through the door. "What did I tell you about the prisoners?"
"They were calling for a guard. I thought one may have been hurt. Nothing happened."
"This time Westin. This time. You're lucky they didn't attack you. Kill you. Those two in there are killers. I can not have you getting killed, Westin. I have plans for you."
"Yes, I know you do Glasstaff. But the others in th..."Harbin is cut off by Glasstaff.
"The trial has been held, correct?" Glasstaff says with an inflection in his voice.
"Uh huh,"Harbin says with reluctance in his voice.
"They will pay for their crimes. The gallows are set up in the square. It's time."
After another moment, Glasstaff and his guards come in the room followed by Harbin. One guard is holding an odd looking crossbow. Two bolts tips can be seen at the center of the stock. The other two are holding manacles and ankle chains. Harbin is holding a set of keys.
Pops and Grum:
Pops and Grum, you are able to see Harbin fiddling with the keys. It looks like he is taking one off.
Glasstaff spreads his arms, a palm facing Pops and the other facing Petros. Your bodies lock in place with the same feeling as the evening before in the manor. Harbin unlocks the cells to Pops and Petros cells. You two are placed in the manacles before the magical hold is released. The others watch, unable to help from behind the bars. "Let's go," Glasstaff says to the guards. They begin to lead Pops and Petros from the cell. Harbin seems to take his time locking the empty cells back up. After locking Pops cell, he leaves a key within reach of Grum before turning and leaving. Harbin leaves behind the guard and turns to close the door with a panicked look on his face.
Pops and Petros are lead out onto the covered porch of the Twonmaster's Hall. The morning sun blinds you for a moment before your eyes adjust. In front of you are gallows set up in the center of the square. Two more guards away by the gallows.
On hearing the main door to the Townmaster's Hall close, Grum will reach out, grab the key, quickly unlock his own cell, followed by Silva's and Vraklasar's ((who we've not heard from yet?)).
"Well, at least Westin isn't completely spineless. But I'm still not sure how we save those two from the gallows. I suggest we sneak out and quickly get our bearings."
(Is there a back door to this place? If so, I'll head out that way, but if not I'll open the front door and take a good look out to see how many people, particularly Redbrands, there are.)
Pops turns his head to Petros, but can't quite take his eyes off the gallows. "This doesn't look good. But don't give up hope quite yet," he says, thinking about the key he saw Harbin secreting off his chain, but not wanting to speak openly about it. "However, if you have any bright ideas, now would be a really good time."
Petros has seen visions of his own death. In those moments between sleep and consciousness, when in a lightning bolt of clarity Death has been able to wrap its cold, pale fingers around his mind and wrench it free from his corporeal self. Yet, in those moments, Petros never saw a shoddy wizard or fat Townmaster fill the role of death bringer. Petros can only laugh at his current predicament.
*"Well," Petros thinks to himself, "I might as well give them a show..."
Petros tempers his mind and begins to sing. It is a traditional song his father would sing to him during long summer nights. Performance: 18.
(I totally forgot to look for my equipment. Grum wouldn't have forgotten though. Perhaps the perception roll to look for a back door could also go to looking for Grum's stuff? Would it be ok to retcon that? I figure as excited as I was personally to be getting into some actual action to the point of overlooking the equipment thing, Grum himself would be very aware of his lack of longbow and swords!)
(Is there a back door to this place? If so, I'll head out that way, but if not I'll open the front door and take a good look out to see how many people, particularly Redbrands, there are.)
Perception: 12

No back door, but there are small windows at the tops of the walls. You'd have to climb but could squeeze out. You go out to the next room. It is an office type of set up here with a few desks. You're able to sneak up to a window and peer out. There are the 3 Redbrands that were with Glasstaff, plus another 2 near the gallows. There is a chest that you pass, large enough to hold your equipment, but it is locked with a padlock. A rune is carved into the brass.
Silva does a quick inspection of the room looking for her equipment - a necklace, a shortbow with quiver and quarterstaff.
Investigation: 6
You do not see your equipment here. The room you are in is strictly holding cells.
Petros and Pops are led closer to the gallows. Some of the townsfolk have gathered, but most appear to be morning drunks. They cheer and spit your direction as you both are slowly lead out. Petros song fills the streets and draws the attention of a few nearby. An elven woman across the way is sweeping dirt from what appears to be a shrine. She takes note of the beautiful song and her face draws long in despair. Seems she has seen this all too often. A half-orc woman also takes note of the proceedings. She watches from a distance.
After her failed search of the holding room Silva joins Grum in the office area. She sees the other prisoners being walked to the gallows and whispers to Grum "we need a distraction and quickly. Do you think a small fire would do the trick?" Silva snaps her fingers to cast a small produce flame cantrip at her fingertip.
"Sister Garaele!" Pops calls out to the Elven woman he spoke to yesterday morning with a slight bow. "With Tymora's blessing, I would sorely like to help bring your comb to Agatha now. But I may need a little help, first."
Pops makes one sudden, mighty jerk to at least attempt to pull his manacles apart. (Had to at least try!) Athletics: 4
"A distraction would be a good idea, certainly. And fire is one of the best distractions, I've found. How big a fire can you make? But first, I think I've found our stuff. There's a chest here, but it's locked. Give me a second to try and get it open."
Grum will look around the room for something to pick the lock with (Investigation: 17)
Then, if he finds something to pick the lock with, he'll check the chest for traps (Investigation again: 19)
And if the chest isn't trapped, and he has something to pick the lock, he'll attempt to do so (not sure what to roll though. He's proficient with thieves' tools if that makes a difference?)
(EDIT: From reading around, I'm led to believe picking the lock would be a DEX check plus my proficiency bonus with thieves tools, so if that's right, then DEX (Thieves' Tools): 24

(Are they foot or hand manacles, or both?)
Pops tries to break the bonds but is unable to snap the iron. You're in just wrist manacles at this point. Sister Garaele makes her way over realizing who is being taken to the gallows. "You cannot deny these two of their last rights no matter the crime, Glasstaff." Glasstaff looks annoyed but allows Sister Garaele. "Make it quick." You notice that the crossbowman moves his sights toward the Sister's direction, but points the crossbow down. Sister Garaele moves in close and begins to recite a prayer for the souls of Petros and Pops.

Searching the drawers, you'll find a few paperclips and letter openers. Surely should enough to pick a lock. You do assume it is trapped based on the rune but are unsure what it means. Give me an ARCANA check. I'll let you know what you discern and if you still want to open it, you picked the hell out of the lock.
That's correct for the roll. Since you are proficient, you get to add your proficiency bonus plus your dex mod.
Pops smiles and nods earnestly at Sister Garaele, appearing to be peacefully entranced by her words, while silently begging her to stretch it out as long as possible.
With his peripheral vision, he scans the crowd for an opportunity to make a break for it. If the crossbowman stays distracted, and an opportunity appears, being acrobatically inclined, Pops may attempt a stunt - something involving leaping and dashing and dodging and finding cover fast, albeit with hands manacled. Perhaps through/over/around the shrine?
(OOC - We're in the dirt-colored square in https://postimg.cc/9420DsVC, yes? Pops is eyeing the alley behind the shrine as a possible escape route.)
