Need a DM ruling on how literal I need to be with Suggestion. Do I realize anything unusual has happened, that a spell was cast? Or do I just believe that he said something that simply coincided with what I already believed and planned to do (at least for the next 8 hours).
You wouldn't know the spell was cast in this case.. You just know you should heed to Eldenser's suggestion, but aren't sure why.
From the PHB, under "Targets":
Unless a spell has a perceptible effect, a creature might not know it was targeted by a spell at all. An effect like crackling lightning is obvious, but a more subtle effect, such as an attempt to read a creature's thoughts, typically goes unnoticed, unless a spell says otherwise.
Talien will stare at/through you and wait for about 1 minute. Making eye contact the whole time his eyes blue. If you say/do nothing he will then say Why? if you hesitate he will say Is it like the baby dance and need to wait until we reach town?
Continuing to whisper
Do you dream Talien? If you do, do you always remember them with clarity? I rarely remmber my dreams when I wake. I might remember enough to know whether the dream was pleasant or not, but I rarely remember details. The details are like trying to hold a ladel of water in an open hand. They just slip away. It felt like I was dreaming an unpleasant dream.

But what if I wanted to tell Corky or someone about the spirit in the weapons? Would that be a perceptible effect because I can't? I still have to follow it but I know something isn't right? Not that I would necessarily want to tell Talien, but another servant of an allied god is a different story

When you try to talk about the sword you get an overwhelming feeling that you shouldn’t and veer away from the subject (Though you don’t know where that feeling is coming from you). While this may perceptible to you, it isn’t perceptible to others... you may seem like you’re avoiding the topic, or being evasive. Nothings stopping you from talking about not being able to talk about it though... but you can’t say “I can’t talk about it because the spirit in the sword not to talk about it)... so essentially you’d have to talk around it. It’s sort of like making a wish, lol.

I had a dream as you call it recently. My master was there and now I seem to have more power. Do you feel stronger now after this dream Alten?
No. Not really. That's not usual for most biological beings. A small percentage have what we call 'photographic memories' but I doubt that even those people have perfect recall.

It is simply a dream that evokes negative feelings like fear or sadness. What feelings did your dream produce in you? Or do you register emotions like we do?

I saw my master again but I know he is dead, don't was surprising and sad too. But a good dream I think. It is hard to describe, Alten you see him breath in and sigh. (1st time he has ever tried this) He pauses for another moment and says I see what you mean. Feelings are sometimes difficult. Breathing feels odd to me, does it feel odd to you? I don't think I will be doing it anymore unless I have too for some reason...I think I register emotions like you do, I get angry and sad...but sadness usually leads to anger for me. I am happy around this group, it makes me feel at home again, and when I am forging a creation...he looks over the greatsword in his handthinking about a new creation.
Breathing is so normal and natural, we don't even think about it - until something prevents us from being able to breathe. Then it is the most important thing in the world.
Well, it's interesting to know that you can process emotions. I'm glad you are happy with the group. That's better than being unhappy around the group.
You continue your watch in relative silence as Talien starts his daily regiment of cleaning blades and armor. Everyone else soon wakes rested for the coming day.
As you all wake from another night spent sleeping on the cold stone ground you greet each other with tired eyes and cramped necks. You all have a bite to eat and drink from your dwindling rations and realize the lack of renewable resources required for basic living may soon become a problem. Based on the map you found, the shaft you discovered yesterday leads down into the grove level where the goal of your main quest may be found. As you pack up your belongings to move out you discuss the best course of action to traverse the shaft...

while enjoying his morning meal grom will offer his axe to talien for cleaning "Talien if you dont mind my blade here got slightly dirty. and as seeing how u are the best polisher i know i think you are just the man for the job"
Alten leads Corkie to another room. He sinks down and offers up his morning prayers to Torm. (I've left my pack, weapons, etc in the room we slept in). Once both are finished with their prayers, he double checks to make sure they are alone. Then he asks quietly
Can you perhaps cast a spell I've seen other holy casters use - it detects whether something is evil or not?
Talien takes the axe a and begins to polish and clean it, he also begins to talk, not directly to you just in general. Better to have a clean and maintained weapon than one that might fail you in battle. When your life depends on it and you pull out a dirty rusted weapon, it will be more likely to fail you. Before returning the axe he traces a finger over the red gem inlaid into it.

"Yes, I do know that one Alten... It is a very useful spell when trying to determine the nature of a creature... I've only used it for Pelor's work of course... But, I have not prepared it today... May I ask why you need access to this particular spell? Do you not trust someone in the group?"

Warforged Fighter Talien
Nope. Don't feel more powerful. That's not how it usually works for us.

Once everyone is awake
Corkie, would you join me in offering morning prayers? Perhaps we could use one another room so as not to disturb or be disturbed?
