At the end of the Third Age, five of the greatest heroes of Terram were corrupted by the Shadow. These new servants, the Shadow Kings and the Night Queen, led The Fallen's foul hordes across all the lands of the world.
This time, the dark god won.
The dwarven clans were broken and retreated to their holds, deep within the earth. The elves withdrew into their vast and ancient forest, abandoning all to the Fallen. The humans, tamed during the Third Age by a power from across the sea, were betrayed from within and surrendered to the Shadow King Erendor. The corruption of The Fallen spread from the ancient battlefields of Terram until all the world had fallen under his shadow.
A century has passed since the end of the world.
Black Church
The Church of the Fallen worships the dark god. Thrown down from the celestial kingdom, he has cast his veil of evil and corruption across Terram, sundering the world from all other gods. The various Orders of Legates hunt those who resist his power, aided by intelligent beasts who can sense magic and disloyalty to Him. A legate enjoys a greater quality of life than the average human, but must serve under strict rules for life: those who go "Pale" and flee their vows are hunted and captured by "Redeemer" legates. The Church prohibits literacy, use of magic, and the ownership of weapons by anyone not authorized by the Church. Legates and their minions punish infractions of these rules with maiming, enslavement, or death.
Leach Stones
Leach Stones are slabs of obsidian that leach magic from the land. They require sacrifice, more blood for the higher-ranking Stones. The Stones are rated as Pale Stones (which require five sacrifices a month), Blood Stones (five a week), and Grand Stones (five a day). In the Fallen's language, they are called zordrafin corith, or Stones of the Fallen. They have stone basins next to them that are at least ten feet in diameter and three feet deep, and filled with a vile recipe of blood and unholy water.
Shadow Kings and The Night Queen.
The four Kings and Queen were once three humans, an elf, and a dragon. Argent, the elf, was once a powerful spell caster. Extraordinarily arrogant, he seized what he believed was a minor demon. He hoped to force this demon to teach him arcane knowledge that would allow him to defeat the Fallen. He was duped. It slowly corrupted Argent's mind until he was too weak to resist. At that point, the Dark God took him for his own, forever trapping the once beautiful elf prince in an eternal world of torment and shame.
One of the humans was a priest that always wanted a god's blessing; his name was Erendor. Over weeks and months, the Fallen took his mind by slowly convincing him through dreams and wished Erendor to serve him. At last, Erendor agreed and was corrupted. The dragon and the others humans were captured and brainwashed.
(Players will be able to create them as the story enfolds )
The Dead
As the world became covered with the magical "Veil of Fallen", the planes of the afterlife were blocked from Terram. The spirits of the dead can no longer depart in peace. At times, they become attached to the recent dead, and walk the land as "Fell", corpses that have returned from the grave. Having no place for their souls to go, their souls stayed inside of their bodies, hungry for flesh. The undead are many and some have retained their will.
Well. Seems like there were a few people interested in the game so here is what I m proposing.
First of all you'll have to read the bit of intro I wrote to get a feel of where we are beginning.
I prefer you send me a PM for applications but write your questions here.
Name:
Race:
Class:
Backstory: Tell where you come from and how you survived. Also how and what happened when you were captured. Don't worry about places and names we will work on that as the story enfolds.
You'll start at 1st level. Point buy for the attribute method. You'll have neither equipment nor money to start with. (We will use Dice to determine what you have managed to scrounge)
Keep in mind that this world os harsh and that things will get hard. I'll try to keep things PG oriented but there might be some adult content ( Like sacrifices and torture ) in the descriptions.
I'll be giving more Inspiration Points than usual and here is how you'll be able to use them.
Use it to gain the advantage on a roll.
Use it to give advantage to an ally.
Use it to give a disadvantage to an opponents roll.
Use it to take control of the story. ( You might find an object or some information. )
We will try to make it story driven and more RP than usual so keep that in mind. ( I will understand if this is not for you )
Races:
All race are ok as most are dying or at war with the Kings and Queens.
Dwarf are fending of undeads and monsters coming from the depth of Terram while staying hold up in their Undermountain fortresses. The few dwarf outside have been turned into slaves and work the dark forges.
Elves are the last free folks and are hiding in their forest, struggling to keep the armies of the Night Queen from rooting them out. A few have decided to take the fight to the oppressors and others are pleasure slaves or bound magic users.
Halflings are a dying race and survive in hiding. They were the first to fall to the savage armies of the Shadow Kings.
Aasimar, Tiefling and Genasi were rare to begin with and are even more so now. A few have turned to the dark and are renown Legates.
The Orcs and Goblin kin have either submitted to the Kings and Queen or have been killed. A few have managed to survive in the wild.*
Dragonborn also rare before the war have been hunted for their magical blood.
For the other race PM me and we will work on something.
Classes
Wizard: They have learned to stay hidden and conceal their spellcasting ( Sleight of Hand is a Class skill ). They have no spellbook but use cyphers like knotted ropes or carved walking staff to keep their spells hidden. Some have even begun to tattoo strange design on themselves.
Sorcerer: With their magical blood they have been hunted to feed the Leech Stones. Some continue to be born with the power but they are becoming rarer.
Paladin and Priest : They are linked to a god by an object and they must have it in hand to activate spells or abilities. We will create the god together. The object cannot be a weapon, armor or shield as it is to obvious.
Warlocks: All patrons are open.
Bards, Druids and Rangers: They get their powers from something older than the gods themselves. The College and Circles are no more but some knowledge persist in the form of hearth wisdom.
If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
Backgrounds
Choose one that would fir your backstory and the theme of the world. Acolytes for exemple would be almost impossible.
"The wagon was moving again, jolting you awake to a world of pain and hunger. Five days since you have been confined in this reinforced cart, bound, hands tied behind your back, with a few others haggard looking souls. Five days of difficult travel to your deaths, or worst, to a life of slavery. Some of you have been blindfolded and some have even been gagged. You have been fed only once to keep you weak.
The husk, its dead dragon-like body with the soul one of the Dark One's fanatics bound into it in servitude, keeps watch over you. He hasn't spoken once and you don't even know if it can. The twos barely alive and struggling horses are the only living things you have seen in those few days.
You all know the area, having managed to survive for a while on your own or in hidden communities, and you have realised that you are being taken to the only city that remains around here. Ashenfort, the domain of the Mother, a legate whose dark ambitions and evil purpose have turned the entire countryside to a lifeless ruin in her effort to please her master. She is feeding one of the Leech Stone with unrestrained zeal."
This is the setting. You would be part of a group trying to survive in this harsh environment. Trying to scrounge or trade food and find allies for a few night sleep in safety.
Horatio Hirschfeld - Squire imbued with fae powers, in the Coliseum of Conquest (W2/L1) DM for Reavers of Harkenwold, and sometimes The Fighting Grounds of the Coliseum
If we’re not playing legates or their enforcers, and magic and weapons are illegal for others to have, how would combat work?
Wizards and Sorcerers would have to be very careful when casting spells. ( I'll use the Skill Sleight of Hand when needed )
Several Gods are still there but they are linked to an item. The Cleric will have to hide it from the Legates and have it in hand or on himself when casting a spell.
What pantheon are you using? Forgotten Realms? A homebrew one?...
Homebrew. Actually the player who want to will have to create their own Gods they want to follow. With a bit of backstory. I ll work with you for that.

Would they be betting the Shadow Kong’s and Queen? Or be their enforcers?
Could be interesting to play in a world so totally opposed to you...
This is the setting. You would be part of a group trying to survive in this harsh environment. Trying to scrounge or trade food and find allies for a few night sleep in safety.
But nothing says you can't be heroes.
I’d be interested in playing in this setting. It seems to have some common points with the Black Company books, which are very good.

I’m down, would be interesting to play and potentially let normally “less optimal” features shine.
Homebrew. Actually the player who want to will have to create their own Gods they want to follow. With a bit of backstory. I ll work with you for that.

Probably 1st level.
I'm down to play, sign me up
