Red Larch is a little town on the Long Road, a few days' travel north of Waterdeep and south of Yartar. It's a way station for caravans coming to or from the cities of the North with only one inn, the Swinging Sword. An important delegation from the city of Mirabar disappeared in the nearby Sumber Hills. The whole town is also abuzz with news and rumors of fierce raiders, roaming monsters, suspicious strangers, and unseasonable weather.
All of you, for your own reasons, have found your way to Red Larch and have been staying in the Swinging Sword Inn since last night. It's a three-story stone structure with a steep slate roof that bristles with many chimneys. A signboard just out over the features a carved wooden scimitar emblazoned with the inn's name in red paint on both sides. An inn yard with stables and outbuildings lies behind the building. It is a very nice place owned by the Irkell family of Waterdeep. Kaylessa Irkell, a sturdy and pleasant woman in her forties, runs the place with her staff.
It is just past eleven o'clock in the morning. What are you doing?

"And so there I am, minding my own business, enjoyin' beautiful sea in all her glory, when fishpeople, not like me mind you, rise up from the depths of the deep and sink my ship..." Arial slams another bottle of rum on the counter. The winged monkey sitting next to him rolls its eyes and pokes its finger into the bottle, trying to get at whatever alcohol is left in the bottle. "I still can't believe she's gone... All because some lunatics thought they could out pirate me." Arial lays his head onto the counter and raises a hand toward the barkeep, "At least you're always here for me, Gregore... Gilfoil... George? I'm sorry, what was you're name again?" The triton looks to be drunk out of his little fish gourd, despite the early hours.
"It's Garrick," the barkeep says, a wiry, dark-haired man who appears to be in his thirties. "I'm not quite sure what you're talking about, but as long as you keep paying me, I'll keep giving you drinks. Just keep your voice down and Kaylessa won't make Iraun kick you out. Don't wanna disturb the folks having brunch."
Paakia rolls her eyes as Arial described for the umpteenth time his tale of woe of his sunken maiden. The tall Goliath woman sits next to her friend and has her own mug. She is flushed from alcohol as well, but is clearly nowhere near the level of drunk as he. She laughs as he struggles to remember the barkeep's name. She eyes Arial, the barkeep, and reaches into the top of her armor with a couple of fingers pulling forth a shiny gold coin. She slams it on the table and eyes Arial fiercely.
"I betcha a gold coin his name is Gideon!"
Truthfully, she wasn't certain, but she enjoyed making wagers with Arial. He was good for sport.

Well that sound extremely interesting I do have to say. Piped a small voice from behind Arial. I've never been on the sea, I've heard and read a lot about it but I think it would be GLORIOUS. Umm, Garrick you said, I'll try what ever it is he's having. The little Gnome struggles to climb up on the bar stool, her ferret eyeing the flying monkey up and down. The names Nifix, but everyone calls me Nix, this here is Serenity. How do ya do. other than... umm what's this state you call it again, drunk?
"Oh don't worry mate, I'll keep quiet... wouldn't want the fish people finding me again..." The winged monkey pats the drunken triton's head and makes quiet monkey noises, "Oh that's right. Thank you for reminding me, Jack..." Arial lifts his head, "My good man, have you seen anyone of a particular... adventurous nature? Anyone that you might look for when planning an adventure?" Only to be surprised that he forgot people were sitting next to him. "Oh, Goliath lady, small lady, when did you two get here?" He also slides the gold piece that Paakia had slammed toward himself. He whispers to Jack, "Do we know the small lady?" To which the monkey shakes his head. "I see... well Miss Nishfish, I am not doing very well. My boat was sunk and now I'm stuck in this dive with you all, no offense Jared."
Garrick looks at the little gnome and nods, pouring some rum into a shot glass and sliding it toward Nifix. "People of an 'adventurous nature?' Well, there is someone out back doing some target practice with a longbow. This goliath you're with looks pretty adventurous, too." He leaves the bar to tend to some of the guests at a table in the dining room.

"Eh??? Arial, you sap," Paakia puts a hand on the Triton's shoulder with a tight grip. "Just cause she isn't a city slicker like you lot doesn't mean she can't enjoy a bit of fun." She has a devilish grin.
Paakia looks at the little folk. She would never admit it, but she found them fascinating. How was it to be so small? So weak, physically, or so she assumed. "Nix was it? Yes, it's called being drunk. My friend here is a bit of a lightweight." She chuckled. Of course, given Paakia's constitution she would think that of most people. "What brings a friend of nature out here?"

Paakia was incredibly flattered and amazed at the rose. She let go of Arial to take it into her hand. "Amazing!" She examined it, in awe of the mysteries some people seemed to inherently possess.
