Hyre gets up and takes the pouch with the egg and the basket Hana gave him. Hs gives Lazlo a thankful look and begins to move towards the door. "I can tell you only what I already know myself, but if you ask I'll try to answer as I can. What do you want to know?" Just before exiting, he turns back for a moment. "Thanks you, Hana, for everything. Maybe we'll be able to convince him to come visit!" He then opens the door and steps outside, waiting for the others to exit the place.

Hyre fills Leon in on what he knows of Sir Geoffrey, that he was a long-time defender of Guiston, that he clearly has a keen love of history and learning, likely kept all the books his wife accumulated over the years about religion and a limited library of arcane practices, an extensive wildlife catalogue, though Geoffrey's experience in falconry was entirely in person... and also that he's been living a solitary existence ever since he was dismissed from the knight's garrison.
As Hyre tells of his experiences with Geoffrey, he hears something in the pouch the egg is in. The stone surface cracks slightly. Not all the way, but it looks as though the metamorphosis to a normal egg has started.
When the group of Hyre, Leon, Lazlo, and Kallista arrive at Geoffrey's farmhouse and knock, Geoffrey's voice can be heard on the other side, speaking in muffled tones along with someone else.
"Be just a moment..." he calls after hearing the knock.
"Oh, don't trouble yourself. Please, allow me." comes a second muffled voice. As the door opens, a very surprised looking Barna appears from behind it, eyes fixed on Hyre... and then on everyone else he brought! Her face immediately flushes and she smiles awkwardly.
"Um... h-hi... everyone." she says, then stiffly turns towards Geoffrey.
"Err... company is here.... lots of it..." she says, giving a soft, nervous laugh.
The old knight rises from his seat to meet the gazes of those at his door. His eyes rest on Hyre for a moment, then on the others he bought. He also spies the basket, and draws a long sigh.
"Friends?" he asks Barna and Hyre.
"I'd like to think so." Barna says.
Geoffrey raises a brow at the extra company and gestures with his cane.
"Well, come in, then, though I'm not sure I have enough chairs for you all to be seated..." he says, looking confused. "Is this what young people do now, sit around reading all day like old men?" he mutters.

Hyre is very excited about the egg, but also confused to meet Barna there and realises the need to explain. He somehow manages to put all the things in order and go over them one by one. "Hey, ah... yes, indeed. I know I said it'll be one Elf but... he said he'll come another time. Instead, the other three expressed their interest in meeting you. I'll let them tell you why themselves."
While the three introduce themselves to Geoffrey, Hyre speaks with Barna. "H... hey." He intentionally stands with his back to the others so they don't see his pink face and at some distance so they won't hear all that they're saying. Or he hopes so, at least. "I'm sorry that I didn't come to visit you. I wanted to but... ah..." It's not a lie. He did want to, he was just too embarrassed. He even walked halfway there and stopped (if you remember). He's not sure how to finish the sentence so he's changing the subject. "Anyway, what are you doing here? I heard things are quite busy with the mission. Aelar mentioned homeless people beaten to near-death."
(Will say something about the basket and egg once Hyre's done talking to Barna and the others are done talking to Geoffrey.)

Barna's ears are purple, and at first she doesn't respond until finally she just reaches out and links her pinky finger around his, then fully takes his hand in hers.
"I was... hoping I'd see you here. I figured I'd find you here after speaking with Aelar." she murmurs.
"I may have been busy, but I missed you." she admits.
"Because Sister Daar got more healing salve, we were able to treat the ones who came in beaten. It's quieted down now, at least. It was pretty rough there for a while, there are members of the Watch who are trying to drive the downtrodden out of the Warren and force them into taking their chances in the Ritz.. but I tried to think about what you'd do in the situation, so I just focused hard on my job. When it was over, I realized I didn't really know where to find you, and you've been coming here so... I took a chance, hoping you'd show up." she answers.
She then looks over to the rest of the group.
"I just didn't know you'd bring everyone." she whispers.
The group introduce themselves to Geoffrey, who seems to be a gracious enough host, bewildered as he is as to why all these kids are taking interest in him.
"I assume that Hyre has told you all about me by now, so... how can this old knight be of service?"
DM, professional illustrator and comic artist, suffering from severe spinal stenosis, married, middle aged, and nerdy.
"It wasn't expected," he replies, "but one by one they each had a reason to meet sir Geoffrey." Although the others are speaking for themselves with Geoffrey, he still tells Barna himself in a whisper. "Leon wants to learn the art of the sword from him. It was easy to predict though. Lazlo came with a story about pipers who'd accompany the knights. It sounds like it's a real thing, however, and, as Hana told us, sir Geoffrey should know quite a lot about it. Kallista... well, I'm not exactly sure why she came, but at this point one more didn't seem to matter. Or maybe she has a reason I'm not aware of. In the end, Aelar chose to try his luck with the Hawk's Nest so he didn't come. Speaking of hawks..." he takes the egg out of its pouch and carefully holds it, aware that it's no longer an unbreakable rock. "Do you remember this?"
Varielky
Aelar considers for a moment how best to proceed. He cannot simply ask for the books on magic and the ones he really needed were in that special archive Raia told him about. Still, he wasn't going to get what he wanted in a day and nothing at all by standing around. He walked up to the counter, still exuding confidence he hoped. When the clerk looked up, he smiled a bright but somewhat tentative smile, the kind of smile he hoped conveyed a right to be there but a hesitancy of what to ask for.
"Good afternoon. My name is Aelar and I've recently been tasked with studying the intersection of Guiston and dwarven history. I had access to few private tomes and in one of them was a reference to a most interesting character, someone named Relnar. He sounded most disreputable but also somewhat key, in the relative past, to that intersection. Would the library have any tomes on this dwarf, his accomplishments both in the city and on its behalf." Aelar tries to take a measured stance, not directly insulting to the dwarfs as he does not know the clerk's personal feelings, but also not complimentary since so many residents of the Nest are bigoted.
ooc: Any rolls needed? Also, was that Perception roll you had me make earlier a success? I know the INT roll was a dismal failure :(

Barna recognizes the egg and the crack, her eyes going wide.
"Oh! It's getting close!" Barna says, gently, very gently touching the egg.
"Still feels like stone, but it must be nearly ready. I guess it's good you're not at the farm, anymore. I doubt a stable would be warm enough for it." she says excitedly, but in a low voice. She doesn't want to get in the way of the others' business with Geoffrey.
"Are you still planning on raising it yourself, then? That'd be quite the responsibility, but I'll be happy to help in any way I can..." she offers.

((No Additional rolls needed. The perception was a passive perception check, not a training check.))
The clerk, mildly disinterested, looks warily at Aelar.
"Curious thing you're studying, but I'll see what we have." the tired-looking human says as he heads towards the sorting index to find which shelf the book is on. It seems he's asked for kind of a difficult subject to find, as he calls over to another curator for help.
Everyone in the library is either studying or now involved in looking for the book he requested. Nobody is looking his way. If he were so inclined, he would have advantage in a stealth check to just quickly slip behind the service desk and into the staff area behind it... or he could just stay put and wait.
The stealth check would be DC 7.
Does Aelar risk it?

"Yes, Sir... Hana spoke of you with great fondness and asked us to send you her regards." Unusually nervous, Lazlo hesitates and looks down at his hooves. Typically words fall out of his mouth without passing through the filter of logic, reason, or good taste... but he wanted to make a good impression. Worried he would ruin his or his friends prospects he shuts his mouth and tries to think of the best way to talk to the Knight about his questions. "Erm- yeah..."

"I will try. I've never tried to take care of any animal by myself before, but it cannot be too hard, right? Besides, the animals I've met in Hon were all... simple. Not like Humans or other humanoid creatures with thoughts, emotions and things like that. That means even I could understand what they wanted, occasionally. The dog barking while chasing me was obviously not happy with me being where I was, for example. With people, it's always complicated. And yet, I'm learning how to deal with them too. Anyway, I won't be raising it entirely by myself. After all, Geoffrey is supposed to teach me how to train it." He thought about Barna's words. How could she know they're no longer at the farm? Did Aelar tell her? But they haven't even slept a single night in there yet... aside from Kallista.

"Um.. you have a lovely home?" He says hesitantly. "Oh gods" he thinks to himself "He's going to think I'm simple minded.." At a loss for words, Lazlo looks desperately at his friends, who he believes much wiser than himself, to talk to the Knight. Taking out his fiddle and bow, he nervously tunes the instrument to calm himself down. "She could use a tune- I call her Ramona because... well, she looks like a Ramona to me..."

Geoffrey glances at Kallista, then Lazlo, as he nervously begins playing. At first he wears a detached, suspicious glower, which lightens up as the kids begin talking.
"Err, I'm afraid I'm not the one who plays..." he says, giving an incredulous snort at their nervousness.
As Kallista holds out the basket and reveals Hana's name, his eyes soften, however. He gestures at her to put the basket on the dining table. When it's opened, it reveals some fine smoked sausages and cheeses, along with some fresh fruit and wine. On the top is a message that reads,
They need the help of a knight, and I need the company of a friend. Come by for a pint, Brian hasn't seen you in months. So help me, I will pick you up myself if you stay cooped up in that lonely old house by yourself.
"Ah. That mare..." Geoffrey says, looking up to the group, his eyes gaining a bit of life.
"You all came out this way to give me a gift basket? What's the other half of the story? How do you all know Hana?" he asks.
Geoffrey is aware that Hyre is showing his egg to Barna, but is dealing with Leon, Lazlo, and Kallista first.
Barna puts her hands around Hyre's as he holds the egg.
"I'm sure if it's you, you'll do just fine." she says, then brushes some of the curly locks out of her eyes. She suddenly realizes that her bangs have been bleached and she looks to him expectantly, wondering if he even noticed.

((THIS. THIS IS WHY I THOUGHT OF THE BOROMIR RULE. D&D Beyond's dice are CURSED. In a game I'm a player in, I just whiffed by rolling no higher than 5 12 times in a ROW. A ROW.))
Against all odds, as Aelar attempts to slip by the concierge, his sleeve catches on the service bell and knocks it over.

And he's noticed.
The curator looks annoyed and says,
"We'll find the book, just stay there. Have some patience, please." he states, shaking his head.
That got everyone's attention, if only for a brief moment. It's going to be much harder to find his way into the unlisted archives, wherever those are.
DM, professional illustrator and comic artist, suffering from severe spinal stenosis, married, middle aged, and nerdy.
(Eh, ah... Decisions! Damnit. Let the dice speak. Personal roll: 3 Nope. He does not notice. Not yet.)
Hyre is blushing slightly as she puts her hands around his. Thinking back, just a few days ago he would definitely be having a fit because of this, but now he doesn't feel like that's going to happen. Perhaps he just accepted the way Barna is. Not that he's optimistic enough to think it's not going to happen ever again, but at least he's more... resilient... than before. Besides, he had a new idea of how to handle these fits, in case some really tricky social situation happens. It was completely different than everything he had tried before but it was worth a try, in case he needs it. Not right now though.
Before they start attracting the attention of others, Hyre disengages from Barna and walks over to the others. "Actually, she gave us the basket when she heard we're coming here. The others were asking me about you while we were at the Horseshoe. Hana happened to hear me mentioning your name and revealed your shared past. Only then she brought this basket and told us to give it to you. She also asked us to tell you she wants to see you again and that you're always welcomed in the Horseshoe." Hyre stands there holding the egg but does not say anything yet. It was too unrelated to the current subject. He didn't hide it or anything and hoped Geoffrey would notice, maybe he'll have something to say. He also tries to see if the others paid attention to him and Barna. Not that there was any chance he'll be able to tell unless one of them makes an obvious gesture or remark to point it out.

Calming down a bit, Lazlo stops his tuning and turns to Sir Geoffrey. "...and Hyre and I are working there at the Saloon, for Hana. We're here mostly because we want to learn. We left some people behind, Sir- and we owe it to them to make something of ourselves... and maybe to help them when we're strong enough. I know it seems far fetched, us being kids and all- but we'd like to try..."
