If Balgrim is MIA, what should we do going forward? - Single Choice
Shall we seek a 6th party member? - Single Choice
Aelar rotates to point his white bow at the leader and, with his link to Raia, looses the arrow before she has even finished furling her wings, so that the white arrow, already in flight, narrowly misses the wing as it streaks to the leader.
ooc: Hoping the surprise factor will give advantage. If not, oh well LOL
Attack: 23 Damage: 11, if advantage earned, this is the second roll 3

The Skell leader is struck by Aelar's arrow right below the elbow. As it shatters, it shreds the flesh until his forearm can be seen clearly falling to the ground as he continues to run, giving a yell of pain. He was utterly unphased by Kallista or Raia's magic flames, but an arrow managed to completely amputate a limb... something else too, that can be plainly seen as the Skell leader flees after his fellows; it's not like he's MADE out of that inky substance. Blood can be seen oozing out of the severed limb. It's some kind of... armor.
((Everyone else has a reaction action to take as well. After your action, the fleeing Skell will be at the cavern wall, which seems to be their goal.))

Kallista steps forward and raises a hand. A arc of electricity launches from her hand to the leader, and breaks off into 3 more to hit three of his fellows. (Guy with the box being one of them)

((I'm dropping the color coding for now since there's not 7 of us for now. Should I probe for replacements?))
As Kallista casts the lightning, she can feel the strength leave her as soon as she expels the pulse of elemental fury at her targets. When the bolt hits the three, something unexpected happens; the inky substance that coats their bodies are instantly repelled, behaving like iron shavings shaped by intense magnets. This has fatal consequences for two of Kallista's victims, as indeed, it can be seen that the inky substance has in fact replaced their skin and more. They instantly collapse, but not from the magically generated lightning. They fall like marionettes whose strings have been cut from the shock and blood loss.
The one holding the container is the only one who's spared. As the bolt passes through him, the inky substance held in the ornately shaped decanter shoots up. The others around he carrier catch as much of the sludge as they can as they flee, then slam into the cavern wall. The ink splashes against the rock and earth and the Skell pass through it effortlessly. It's not teleportation, the ink seems to just dissolve the rock and earth like melted butter, leaving behind a passage dripping with the toxic substance.
The leader turns before he too enters the narrow passage created by his soldiers, and turns back to look at the group. The ink around his face recedes just enough to show his face; HE still has his skin, it seems, as he pulls the shards of the arrow out of his eye with his remaining arm. He drops the Serpent's Tongue, though rather than simply letting it go to be dissolved by the ink, he pulls the ink back into his body before discarding the weapon.
The Skell glares at Aelar with his remaining eye, and shouts something at him while pointing to him before he too disappears into the blackness before the group can fire another shot accurately
.
The group's actions have not been for nothing, however. The Skell didn't manage to get away with nearly as much of the titan's blood as they would have had they not been interrupted. In fact, they may have even killed it. The heavy thumping of the titan's heart quickly settles down despite its wounds.
Kallista's demonic visage cracks and breaks off from her like dry clay. Her body and clothes are returned to normal, the broken pieces, smelling of brimstone and ash, flow towards the hole that is quickly closing in the titan's chest. She feels exhausted, but otherwise is all right. The titan seems to have returned to its slumber.
The same can't be said of Raia however, who distances herself from the group so that the blood doesn't get on any of them. It's turning her body black, as if it's consuming her. She seems to dissolve like the cavern wall in a black mass, when a golden light shines through it and the elfish form of Raia quickly darts out, panting heavily.
Just like that, it's over. If the ink is deadly to the touch for a dragon, it'd be far too dangerous to attempt for the kids to follow the Skell through the passage. It's dripping from every surface inside.
However, the attack is ended, and a few youngsters managed to thwart their enemy from getting a full harvest of the titan's blood. Raia slumps into Aelar's arms while she catches her breath. What was providing light for the group before was Kallista's smouldering eyes, but with her form returned, Raia creates a small orb of light strong enough to see too, that thanks to Lazlo, they have a prisoner. The vines entrapping the Skell AREN'T dissolving, just as the white wood arrow stayed intact in the leader's eye. It seems that the ink doesn't just dissolve materials on contact, but the exact properties of the titan's blood, and how the Skell have managed to harness its deadly properties, will take some study.
((I hope that didn't come off as too 'cutsceney' but I think the actions the Skell leader took would have been brief enough, not to mention the low light and the distance, would make taking another shot with a bow a pretty tall order for some novices.))

Once Raia is steady on her feet, Aelar cautiously makes his way to the fallen weapon and examines it. He leave it where it is for the moment and heads to the 'tunnel' and looks down it, doing everything cautiously, ready to dodge or flee or shoot at a moment's notice.
Perception 12
Returning to the weapon, he drops his shirt over it and then picks it up, just in case, before returning to the others.
"Now what?"
ooc: Yes, some new blood.

(( although I enjoy the more rapid pacing of fewer players, I agree adding some more would be nice. I guess it comes down to how active/a good fit they are. I know we discussed the pass/skip option so maybe we could revisit that in the homebrew rules thread. How far along the Prologue are we?))
Fleabag Fleabane -Tabaxi Ranger | Lenny Coggins- Halfling Barbarian | Sid Shatterbuckle- Dwarf Fighter/Rogue| Lazlo - Satyr Bard in Training
((We're basically finished the prologue now, so it might be a good time to put out feelers for new players.))
((Also yep, the blood was pulled back to the Skell squadron leader on command.))
The passage has already begun narrowing as whatever effect the titan blood has on the surrounding cavern walls can't support the weight pushing down, it's already beginning to fill in. Aelar's elfish ears, however, do pick up the sound of running water in the distance. They must be close to the source of the underground waterways.
Raia turns her attention then to their captive. Seeing the vines still intact on him, she risks touching him briefly with a fingernail. When nothing happens, she proceeds to haul him to his feet.
"It seems only the purest form of the blood is poisonous to the touch, and only the leader had the capability to manipulate it. For the rest of them... this just served as armor, though the reaction to the lightning bolt was... interesting." she states. "No one has had a chance to truly study this substance because of how dangerous it is. Given what just happened, however... that will likely change." she adds.
"We'd best leave the titan to its slumber, get back to Hyre and the others... there's going to be a lot of work to do for this city. I'll try and assist as best I can. I imagine young Lazlo will want to see to his lady friend, make sure she's all right."
Raia attempts to shift back into dragon form, but the best she can do is sprout dragon horns and a tail that recede back into her body.
"I guess we walk..." she murmurs, then turns her attention to Kallista.
"How do you feel?" she asks, basically hauling the prisoner on her shoulder like a rucksack.d

Kallista goes to pick up the serpents tounge so it isnt forgotten. "Tired..." she says, focusing on the ground as she walks.

Aelar works hard to keep his expression calm as they head back to the surface. We'll get it figured out, Raia. You and me...and maybe that other one that spoke to me. Maybe she can help.
As they walk he examines the weapon the leader dropped, trying to determine if it's the same one as he remembered. After he's done he shows it to Raia. "Do you think it would be safe for me to touch this? I was worried about a curse or something."
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
Raia hmms and examines the weapon carefully.
"I don't detect anything out of the ordinary, at least as far as any corruption left behind by contact with the blood. This IS however a very old dwarven relic. I would think they'd be happy to have it back... the survivors, anyway." she says.
"We should get back... there's going to be a lot of chaos up there and we need to make sure your friends are secure."
((You'll be choosing your classes soon enough. Actually, because things went a little differently than I thought they would, and you all had a bit more of an adventure than I had planned for the prologue, here's how choosing your class will work.
You can choose any class you like, but for the classes you built up sufficient points in, you have the choice to either go straight to level 2, or start out as a multi-class.))

When the group reunites, the Watch finally have begun restoring order. Leon and Geoffrey arrive first, happy to see everyone made it all right. The damage to the city was actually not as severe as the sheer loss of life. Much of the ruling class was utterly cut down, leaving massive power vacuums and gaps in governing bodies. Community leaders from the Warren are suddenly promoted to positions of power as much of the higher ranking military officers were also killed in the attack; those in the Nest put too much confidence in the ability to use kill runes and the assumption that the dwarves would always be around to fix the Labors and keep them in order.
Speaking of the Hearth, about half of the dwarves survived the attack, and thankfully, most of the Archives survived. The Skell squadron leader that escaped must have simply taken a fancy to the weapon as a souvenir of conquest, though he used it like a master.
Much of the ruling class that survived did so because of the generosity and compassion of Lady Ashwa, who has since become one of the major govenors in the new city council, going from a largely shunned outsider in the noble ranks to an executive power. She survived her wounds and has recognized the youths that helped end the attack on Guiston, Aelar, Hyre, Lazlo, Kallista, Leon, Balgrim, and Atetra as heroes to be given full citizenship and even extends an offer for them to take up residence in a now vacant manor while they study whatever they please at the academy, which was largely spared from the attack due to the teaching faculty using student labor rather than automatons and having sufficient existing security to protect the student body.
However, the victory is bittersweet. While the remaining city council is indebted to the group, their military power has been crippled for the time being, and a plan to rescue the people of Hon will have to wait until Guiston is stable and secure, and Raia's recovery from her exposure to the blood of the Guiston titan is slow. While their desire to help their people remains strong, there is nothing the youngsters can do but train and learn.
((While I put out feelers for 2 new players to add, you all can put the finishing touches on your characters by describing what they do with the time and facilities they have access to. For any skills or ability scores you have 2/3 successes in, you may roll with advantage to get a final success.
You may also roll 4D20 (dropping the lowest) to add successes to any ability score or skill you have 1/3 successes with. Nat 20's count as 2 successes, so if you have a horseshoe up your butt, you can potentially get 6 successes to apply.))

It's been much longer than expected. Weren't they only supposed to go and shut down the heart chamber? When Balgrim returns alone, Hyre panics for a moment, and when Balgrim tells him where the others went, it doesn't make him feel any better. From that moment until they return, he can think of nothing but all the ways their little journey underground can go wrong. He could have chased after them, but he couldn't know what is waiting down there. What if it's a maze? What if he'll get lost while trying to find them?
When everyone returns, Hyre is put at ease, but he doesn't spare the others from some criticism. At the bottom of it, though, he's happy to see they're all fine.
Your notes are a bit different from mine.
Hyre: 2/3 stealth 1/3 insight 2/3 INT 2/3 athletics 2/3 arcana 1/3 history.
Hyre: 20/50 rogue 10/50 ranger 5/50 monk 40/50 wizard 20/50 druid 35/50 Artificer. (Class points are harder for me to keep track of, so it's just a record of the last time you posted it. The only change seems to be Artificer who got +5, though. Also, it seems Hyre is the jack of all trades yet master of none type. He has the most class points, distributed over the most classes, but he has none of them completed.)
You also noted Hyre to have both 1/3 successes in stealth and proficiency in that skill, which leads me to believe the 2/3 successes, the midpoint, is correct?
While I'm still debating with myself over the Wizard/Artificer choice, there are some other things I'd like to know.
I assume the egg hatched during this time? How will that affect him?
I'll also somewhat echo SrDeebs' question. Proficiencies/features we get from our race/class, how will that work? Do we get all/some/none?
What about the starting feat from being a V. Human, can I just pick any?
Anyway, before I make my choices, might as well roll for those skills.
Stealth, if it was 2/3: 4. Instead, if it was 1/3: 35.
Insight - I don't want this one on Hyre, doesn't really fit.
INT, 2/3: 11.
Athletics, 2/3: 13.
Arcana, if it was 2/3: 19. Instead, if it was 1/3: 42.
History, 1/3: 38.
I hope I did the rolls right.
Looks like Arcana and Stealth succeed either way, while all the others failed. Also, that Arcana first roll has both 1 and 20. Lucky it was an advantage and not a disadvantage.
