Hey folks my fiance and her friends are interested in playing DnD some of which is there first time. They wanted it to be a Disney themed adventure.
I have 3+ years of Dm experience so im pretty confident in myself and run a lot of homebrew content but i am looking for some feedback to keep the theme alive and present it to the new players. Im going to be going a bit Kingdom Hearts in a way and merging the worlds but wouldnt mind some help in building a good plot hook for them.
Here's what I'm sending to the players i plan on doing some design and make it a cool e- invite
Plot Hook The magical worlds of disney have collided. Agrabah now has the jungles of Tarzan and Arendelle is now in an underwater dome of Atlantis. At first this seemed exciting getting to see all these worlds and meet new kinds of people. Trade has flourished between these worlds and traveling through each of them has proven very easy. This new event seemed to be very beneficial. Until the heartless came... Not all worlds we’re good and these dangerous creatures have invaded several worlds with no clear motive but that of destruction. A Council known as the Princesses of hearts have united a group of heroes in an attempt to locate a powerful Genie in hopes to clear the heartless from everyone's worlds. The Genie in the past granted 3 wishes to his master. The Genie is now free but his magic is still powerful and could aid us in this battle against the heartless. We find ourselves in the Deserts of Agrabah headed towards the Cave of Wonders, the last known location of the Genie.
**The Mission**
We start our journey on a caravan, riding through what used to be the Deserts of Agrabah. Now a lush forest. An old man hunched over steering the Caravan deep into the desert leads you all. His beard is long and white, his teeth are near non-existent but he was highly recommended as a guide for this adventure. (The guy is Jafar in disguise) His name if asked is Rafaj
Apes will attack the cart as they are in the jungles of Tarzan atm.
After the encounter Rafaj will continue with the caravan towards the desert and open up the cave of wonders.
The cave makes some jabs at Rafaj about not being worthy to step foot inside and warns the Pcs not to touch anything but the lamp inside. The Genie has returned here as his home but he is free to leave if he so chooses.
So the Pcs will go inside and have to solve a few puzzles to get to the chambers. Currently i have a few riddles lined up and will have disney Characters from their world as the answers Possibly going to do a word jumble thing for it. just something easy for the group to figure out.
The Second room will lead to a chamber filled with musical notes flying around. the Pcs will have to perform a song from their world to entice the magical notes to open the next door. (an excuse to make my fiance sing disney songs)
The 3rd room will be an open area and will basically be the boss battle of the campaign. Not entirely disney themed here but i thought a Lamia and a few Jackalwere against a lvl 3 Party would be good enough. (Should be about 5 players so should be balanced) https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters/lamia https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters/jackalwere
Upon their defeat they will touch the lamp and free the genie. RP happens and the treasure chamber behind them opens up. (I'll try to bait the players in but if they ignore it like the cave told them too thats fine too)
Upon leaving the cave they will be Stunned by Rafaj aka Jafar and he will trap the Genie enslaving him. Leaving us a cliff hanger to the party that hopefully they will want to return to kick jafars butt later.
Any tips or suggestions to make the encounters more disney themed? We are only going to be playing for about 3 hours and it is a one shot so i cant go too crazy but my goal is to get them to want to play again and continue
First of all, love the idea and worldbuilding. I have thought a D&D campaign in the Disney universe would be super interesting. I have a few comments though
1) Jafar disguised as an old man. This is fun because it is the same trick he pulled in the movie, but that might be its downfall. I am not sure how well your players will handle "meta" knowledge (especially if they are new) but they may call out the disguised Jafar early on if they recognize the twist from the movie
2) What occurs when the party leaves the cave. You say they are stunned by Jafar. Do they get any sort of save? What happens if they succeed? If you need Jafar to succeed, then you could write it in such a way that the party has no chance at saving against the effect, but that may take away player agency as well and feel to much like a railroaded encounter, especially when their prize is snatched away from them
Overall, I love the idea. Sounds like it will be alot of fun
Edit: Also, I think that you accidently posted this to the wrong forum section. The Dungeon Masters Guild is for discussing or promoting third-party D&D content that has been posted to the Dungeon Masters Guild website
