So, looking to run one of the CM adventures where the BBEG is a Mummy Lord.
The challenge is (as the thread title suggests) one of my party members is an Evoker. As someone in the MM entry discussion said, essentially all he's going to need to do is look at her funny, and the fight will be over.
If you are unaware, Mummy Lords are vulnerable to fire and only have 97 hp. One upcast fireball would do the trick.
I get that part of the mechanics is finding the heart, and the Ledgendary and Lair actions can make the encounter deadly, but neither of those really mitigates the eventual one-shot from the Evoker.
Looking at the stat block more closely now, there is also this.
Until initiative count 20 on the next round, any non-undead creature that tries to cast a spell of 4th level or lower in Valin’s lair is wracked with pain. The creature can choose another action, but if it tries to cast the spell, it must make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, it takes 1d6 necrotic damage per level of the spell, and the spell has no effect and is wasted.
The mummy lord is one of those creatures that gets its CR from firepower, not durability, but I must say it's on the flimsy side for CR 15. Even without its vulnerability, burning through 97 hp in one turn isn't really that difficult.

Hey guys,
So, looking to run one of the CM adventures where the BBEG is a Mummy Lord.

Any thoughts on how to spice things up a bit?
Yeah that would do it. :)
Although I wonder if, essentially, removing that weakness might make the encounter too difficult?
I just noticed a major difference.
The named stat block removed the 24 hour timer on the rejuvenation trait.
Hmmm......
Looking at the stat block more closely now, there is also this.
