I am creating a World, first one if will have an actual story instead of just folks messing around with a half built story and what not. So, normal I just make up the session as a go, for there is no real plot to it, just folks having fun. But for this I got a actual world, plot etc. And I am trying to figure out how to include enemies, to fight and stuff that would fit into the world. Without just saying, here's some goblins go knock yourself out.
To give some background into the world, I am basing the first part off of the second adventure in phandalin. I have replaced the White dragon with a Bronze, called Morg the Foolish. The party has been hired to kill the beast by the local town folk who are being plunderer of odd items such as wagon carts, and misc metals and not normal dragon plunders. But the catch is Glyrass the Lord of Ice is larger dragon who has been Banished and has sent his cultist to kill Morg, for Morg isn't actually foolish but is building a weapon to kill Glyrass. Incase he breaks out of banishment. So how would one intrude enemies to fight in a smooth way in the first session or other events to spur rp.
Do not worry about setting everything up in the first session. This is not Skyrim, where you get an exposition dump and learn about dragons, the Stormcloak-Imperial war, and the elves all in the first couple of minutes. Unlike a video game, which tries to lock you into playing in the first few moments, your players have already committed to being in D&D, so you can afford to take it a little slower.
Start by giving them a hook for their first adventure - give them some reason to start their quest and make them emotionally invested in it. Maybe they meet a girl whose doll was stolen (perhaps the weapon feeds on psychic imprints on emotionally significant items), or some other hook that is tailored to your particular playgroup’s heartstrings/play styles. Once you set them down the path, you can string out providing them more information, so they learn and change their perspective as the campaign progresses.
