There’s quite a bit of information for players in the introductory chapters of the book, and probably enough for most players to be getting started with.
If you’re wanting to dig deeper into the older Dragonlance lore, be aware that the SotDQ has updated a few things to be consistent with 5th ed D&D. E.g. the Wizards of High Sorcery are now the Mages of High Sorcery, to encompass other spellcasters (like sorcerers, who didn’t exist in the game as a distinct class at the time of classic Dragonlance).
The canonical character species in Krynn are humans, elves, dwarfs, gnomes and kender (which replace halflings). Minotaurs and goblinoids are also well-established in Dragonlance, though usually as typical “evil humanoids”. Of course, in line with modern D&D, players are welcome to create characters with those species if they wish. The campaign book also makes it explicit that other species can appear, if desired, but need a bit of work to explain why they’re there: maybe isolated, remote communities or wanderers from across the Multiverse.

does anyone know of a concise primer I could give them with the essentials since the DL setting is kinda unique?
