I recently got a copy of Eberron: Rising from The Last War and have had a bit of an odd question: given the varying size of these constructs, how big is their crew and soldier compliment? The map provided in the book shows it could have maybe around 10-20 people if you only look at how many beds are in the thing (and that’s if they are bunk beds at max).
I understand that, in the main setting of Eberron in 5E, Colossi aren’t really very functional and serve as a dungeon type of environment. But, I am still curious what it would look like if these things were still fully operational and fully crewed.
What I mean is that the book says it is mainly used as a sort of semi-sentient battle station and troop transport. The fact there is a conference room, living quarters and stations in the head for a command center is implying, to me, that they are optimized when carrying soldiers and being operated by a crew.
On Page 223 of ERLW There is a paragraph about operating a colossus. While as stated in other responses it can operate without a crew the book contains the line "For optimal performance, a colossus required an active crew including a captain with the Mark of Making, a weapons officer with the Mark of the Storm, and a helmsman with the Mark of Passage." Considering it says including rather than an active crew of it I would guess that the actual crew would consist of at least 10 others. The additional troops it would carry would likely be in addition to that. I hope this helps anyone who was curious about using a warforged Colossus as a siege engine.

It's a construct, not a vehicle, so it may not actually need any crew, but giving it a crew of 10-20 seems more fun.
