Before I go reinventing the wheel, I'm wondering if anyone could point me towards some decent tables which provide ideas for magical storms/areas of planar instability/strange occurrences, etc.
My homebrew setting has such schism storms aka reality storms which arise from time to time in certain areas.
Most of the tables I've found so far are more humorous than dangerous, more whimsical than darkly strange.
I don't know of any myself, but you should be able to get a viable table out of something like ChatGPT. Giving it a little bit of context so it knows that you are asking for a table usable in D&D and then giving it an example of what a reality storm is... should work!
CHATGPT Version: Certainly! Here's a D&D table for magical storms:
Magical Storm Effects Table
Roll 1d20 to determine the effect of the magical storm:
Arcane Lightning: Bolts of crackling arcane energy streak across the sky, striking random targets. All creatures within 60 feet of the storm's center must make a Dexterity saving throw or take 3d10 lightning damage.
Temporal Distortion: Time becomes erratic within the storm's radius. Roll 1d6: Odd numbers cause time to slow, halving the movement speed of all creatures. Even numbers cause time to accelerate, doubling the movement speed of all creatures.
Ethereal Mist: A dense mist fills the air, obscuring vision beyond 20 feet. Any creature within the mist is under the effects of the Blur spell until they leave the mist.
Gravity Flux: Gravity becomes unpredictable, causing creatures to float or fall randomly. All creatures within 30 feet of the storm's center must make a Strength saving throw or be affected as if by the Levitate spell for 1d4 rounds.
Elemental Chaos: The storm summons elemental creatures. Roll 1d4: 1-2 Fire Elemental, 3-4 Water Elemental. The creature appears hostile to all nearby creatures and remains for 1d6 rounds before dissipating.
Enchantment Aura: The storm fills the air with enchanting energy. All creatures within 60 feet of the storm's center must make a Wisdom saving throw or be affected by the Charm Person spell for 1d4 rounds.
Illusionary Mirage: A mirage distorts the landscape, creating false images and sounds. All creatures within 50 feet of the storm's center must make an Intelligence saving throw or be affected as if by the Major Image spell for 1d4 rounds.
Teleportation Whirlwind: A swirling vortex of energy appears, randomly teleporting creatures within its radius. Roll 1d8 to determine the direction and distance (in 10-foot increments) a creature is teleported.
Necrotic Shroud: Dark energy emanates from the storm, draining life force. All creatures within 40 feet of the storm's center must make a Constitution saving throw or take 2d8 necrotic damage.
Conjuration Burst: The storm spawns random objects or creatures. Roll 1d6: 1-3 Objects (such as rocks or furniture), 4-6 Creatures (random beast or monstrosity).
Transmutation Surge: The storm alters the physical properties of objects and creatures. Roll 1d6: Odd numbers transform non-living matter into gold, even numbers turn living creatures into stone temporarily (Petrified condition for 1d4 rounds).
Divine Blessing: Radiant energy blesses all creatures within 60 feet of the storm's center. Each creature gains temporary hit points equal to 2d10 + their Charisma modifier.
Dimensional Rupture: Spatial tears appear, creating portals to other planes. Roll 1d4: 1-2 Abyssal Portal, 3-4 Celestial Portal. Creatures within 20 feet of a portal must make a Charisma saving throw or be pulled through to the other plane.
Psionic Surge: Psychic energy pulses through the storm, causing confusion. All creatures within 30 feet of the storm's center must make an Intelligence saving throw or be affected by the Confusion spell for 1d4 rounds.
Elemental Fusion: Two elemental energies clash, creating a fusion effect. Roll 1d4: 1-2 Fire and Lightning (creatures within 30 feet take 3d6 fire and lightning damage), 3-4 Ice and Acid (creatures within 30 feet take 3d6 cold and acid damage).
Shadow Veil: Darkness envelops the area, plunging it into shadow. The storm creates an area of magical darkness within 40 feet of its center, as per the Darkness spell.
Soundburst: Sonic waves emanate from the storm, deafening creatures within its radius. All creatures within 50 feet of the storm's center must make a Constitution saving throw or be deafened for 1d4 rounds.
Radiant Cascade: Beams of radiant light pierce through the storm, healing and harming randomly. Roll 1d6: Odd numbers heal creatures within 30 feet for 2d8 hit points, even numbers deal radiant damage to creatures within 30 feet for 3d6 damage.
Mind Control Maelstrom: Psychic energy swirls around the storm, compelling creatures to obey. All creatures within 60 feet of the storm's center must make a Wisdom saving throw or be affected by the Dominate Person spell for 1d4 rounds.
Wild Magic Surge: Unpredictable magical energies surge uncontrollably. Roll on the Wild Magic Surge table (from the Player's Handbook) to determine the effect.
its hard to follow up that, but TCE has a section on magical effects, includingmagical storms

My compliments to your mad prompting skills and credit to ChatGPT (and the many parts which constitute it's mind!)
It could use a little tweaking, but that's a hell of a great start!
Thank you!
Oh yeah, that's typical for an AI. They basically do work equivalent to a B+ High School student. The thing is, that is 'good enough' most of the time anyway.
As long as you do not ask for legal precedents and submit them to a judge, that is.

I'm definitely looking more for the latter.
Any suggestions?
