you read the title, Giants. I've never liked the whole caste system thing, or the idea that some giants are stupid bullys (hill). but sometimes you need to have a giant violent idiot. so what do?
heres my idea. giants in Norse mythology are very humanlike. they live in another world, but some can be good, some can be evil, some can be mischievous (Loki, technically a giant), besides being huge and having magic powers, they're a lot like humans. so here's my plan for (in my opinion) better giants to use in your games, presented in the internet's favorite format, a numbered list!
break the ordning over your knee. no more storm king, no more caste system
giants can pretty much live anywhere, but a good amount live in the transitive elemental planes or elemental chaos, or near places of Planar power
giants can be more or less aligned with any plane you want! want a trickster giant? feywild aligned. weaponsmith giant? fire(or magma) aligned. want a creepy swamp giant? ooze aligned.
giants aligned to the inner planes are more common, while those aligned to the outer planes are rarer, more dangerous, and more dogmatic
change the name of these Planar giants to Jotun
under these rules, giants can be whatever you want, besides being limited to the 6 iron-hard archetypes we have.
AND you can have the six if you still want them
hill giant=mud hills, acheron jotun
stone giant=plane of earth, limbo(dreamwalker) jotun
fire giant=plane of fire, acheron, ysgard(maybe) jotun
frost giant=frostfell, Acheron, ysgard jotun
cloud giant=plane of air, feywild jotun
storm giant=plane of air, great conflagration(should be lightning) jotun
About Me: Godless monster in human form bent on extending their natural life to unnatural extremes /general of the goose horde /Moderator of Vinstreb School for the Gifted /holder of the evil storyteller badge of no honor /king of madness /The FBI/ The Archmage of I CAST...!
Alignment: Lawful Evil
Fun Fact: i gain more power the more you post on my forum threads. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
First of all I do like the idea of giants being like humans only, well, giant. Although I do believe a giants personality, like humans, shouldn't necessarily be decided based on planes. Although the giant typing does make sense, fire giants being near Elemental planes of fire, for example. Overall, yes, I believe Jotun good.
