I'm making a campaign where the pcs are sent by the gods to awake their weapon to help defeat the arising army of the fiends. This weapon happens to be a tarrasque. I changed a bit of the lore on it to fit my campaign. In order to awaken it, the players must travel to different planes to retrieve pieces of an artifact. What should this artifact be or what should it look like? What parts should be on what planes? Just looking for some ideas here. Thanks!
Since the tarrasque is basically a walking stomach that never fills up, maybe one component could be a magical Horn of Plenty that always overflows with food. And it could be found in a paradise of some sort that no one ever wants to leave.
The above ideas are really excellent. A couple things pop in mind to me.
1) If there is a list of items needed to raise the tarrasque, than people must have raised the tarrasque before. Who did it? What happened? Why did this group scatter the necessary tools to the wind afterwards? The answers to these questions will help address the progress of the quest, and what happens to your PCs as they come closer to their mission.
2) I do like the idea of metaphorical items, trying to build the nature of the tarrasque (its hunger, its anger, its confidence, etc.) This can help guide the challenges around it. I.e. an amulet of rage that recreates the Tarrasque's aggression might cause nearby people to fight amongst themselves, making it hard to transport
