The title pretty much says it all. I'm trying to tie one of my player's backstory into the current narrative.
He plays a Dragonborn pally of Sol, backstory is his brother never got along with their holy order, disappeared and player has been following rumors involving necromancy and evil deeds to find him.
Current villain is a Dracolich. The player's brother will be the main antagonist the group faces and the right hand of the Dracolich.
I am just trying to work out how to blend the Lich and Oathbreaker Pally to suit the flavor of the player's backstory and fit the current setting.
I feel like just blending both would make this guy deadly beyond reason. Party is 1 lvl 10 fighter 2 lvl 9 pally and cleric, 4 lvl 8 druid, sorceror, fighter, and barbarian.
I like the Lich idea so they can kill this guy and he keeps coming back. Doesnt necessarily need all the magic spells they get per MM. Just want to find a nice balance between Lich and Oathbreaker or traita/abilities that reflect this.
I thought about that. I've used Death Knights before is why I'm trying to not.
In that case I'd probably avoid using an Oathbreaker paladin at all, since anything you do is either not going to look much like a paladin, or is gonna look an awful lot like a deathknight.

May I suggest just using a Death Knight, being as that is literally intended as an undead fallen paladin?

How about a Narzugon then?
The party maybe expecting Death Knight, but that's a whole other kettle of Fiend.
