So I'm trying to get a Hexblade Warlock (XGTE) with Green Flame Blade cantrip (SCAG) which by itself breaks the PHB +1 rule in AL. I get it, not up for debate. Except for the one line from the ALFAQ:
"Spells are a class option; any new spells learned by advancing in a class or by feats are subject to PHB+1. Characters that prepare spells from a spellbook may copy spells even if those spells aren’t normally found in your character’s PHB+1".
Wizard is the only full class that utilizes a spell book, as far as I know no other subclasses use one. Except for perhaps a Warlock who takes Pact of the Tome. The FAQ is oddly open ended if only Wizards can break PHB +1 when copying spells. So if the Pact gives Warlocks a spell book, then per the FAQ you could copy any cantrip into it, even outside PHB +1. Any input here? If it's too much of a grey area then I won't do it, I don't want to get conflicting DM rulings at the table.
The only problem is that, RAW, you can't swap cantrips prepared as you level up and you only choose cantrips when you level up. Spells (including cantrips) picked when leveling up are constrained by PHB+1.
"Additionally, when you gain a level in this class, you can choose one of the warlock spells you know and replace it with another spell from the warlock spell list, which also must be of a level for which you have spell slots."
Cantrips don't have spell slots so by RAW you can't swap them.
Also, Wizards can only add spells of 1st level or higher to their spell books.
"Copying a Spell into the Book. When you find a wizard spell of 1st level or higher, you can add it to your spellbook if it is of a level for which you have spell slots and if you can spare the time to decipher and copy it."
Yes, Wizards are the only class that can break the PHB+1 rule for spells that they copy into their spells books but that doesn't include cantrips.
Finally, pact of the tome does allow you to choose 3 cantrips from any spell lists but as usual those choices are constrained by your PHB+1.
So, the bottom line is that the SCAG melee cantrips won't work with any XGtE content if played under AL rules and that would seem to be an intentional decision by WotC.
I'm with David42 on this one. Warlocks also don't prepare spells from their Book of Shadows even if it counts as a spellbook. However, I'm pretty sure you can copy rituals from any list or source into your Book of Shadows without worrying about PHB+1 if you have the Book of Ancient Secrets invocation. Note that the 2 1st-level rituals you get upon taking the invocation must be from PHB+1.
If your playing a wizard/warlock, Can you use your Warlock Tome as the Wizard Spell Book? Issue is how it handles the spells and such. There is never any actual information on what is in the book. Its just a book that gives you 3 cantrips. Tiny book. So could you take levels in Warlock, then multiclass into wizard and use your book of shadows as the Wizard book?
How would this effect the spells recorded inside the book if the tome is lost? According to the texts, after an hour of a ritual to gain a replacement tome, the original is turned to ash and disappears. So do you loose all the spells you had recorded as well?
If you can record information into the Book of Shadows, would that effect the monetary cost of recording said spells?
I would be surprised if the Book of Shadows could also be used as a spellbook. In a home game, I'd totally allow it, but I doubt it would fly at an ADL table if someone looked at your character sheet.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.

If you use your tome as your spell book, then if you lost your tome, you should ONLY regain those warlock spells specifically designed to be written into the tome. You should not be able to summon all your lost wizard spells with a one hour ritual.
