So i'm slightly confused on how the DnD Beyond systems work and I want to clear up a few questions before I make my players purchases things needlessly.
I have the PHB in person but none of my 5 PCs do. If I create a campaign using DnD beyond as a DM, purchase the $30 playerhandbook (ill get my $6 from each player) and pay the DM subscription fee, will my 5 players be able to use the unlocked subclasses/backgrounds/spells in our campaign? Will they have access using DnD Beyonds free character systems? And can they browse through the PHB information at their leisure?
Thanks in advance for any tips. A bit nervous running my own campaign and I want things to go as smoothly as possible.
If you buy the 1.) PHB on DnD Beyond, then 2.) subscribe to the Master's tier, 3.) have those five players create D&D Beyond accounts and 4.) join a campaign you create, 5.) and you enable content sharing in your campaign they will be able to use all PHB content in the character builder, read the book, etc. You can actually host three, maybe still up to five, campaigns each campaign is limited to I believe 12 players.

Yes, Master Tier allows sharing of all purchased content. Someone else would have to confirm, but I believe the DM doesn't have necc own content if another player in the campaign does. So for example, if the DM had PHB and player #2 had like Xanathar's Guide to Everything, Content Sharing enabled in the DM's campaign would give everyone access to both books.

As a heads up: If you share an adventure book with your party, they can read that too. So, yes, if you toggle on sharing for Curse of Strahd, they can read along with you....
Good to know as I do have a habitual meta gamer in my midst LOL. I am glad that you can turn off certain books, but I do have one question about that however: If you turn off access to a certain book does that restrict access to the content entirely? Specifically lets say a magic spell, race or some other content.
I believe the answer is yes, people have asked for more granular control over sharing, say spells and magic items in Tashas but not classes, but that level of control hasn't been implemented (I don't think it'd be hard since you can purchase content piecemeal so you'd just have to replicate that to content management. But I may be incorrect on that one.

It's probably also a low priority because you can also just tell your players "no" when they show up with a class from Tasha's that you don't want in your game. Granted you have to do some police work from time to time but if you're using the campaign in DDB, you DO have access to all the character sheets and the equipment therein.

The content sharing page says "Blocking a source will hide compendium content to prevent players from reading it unless they own it. No options or content will be removed from other tools such as the character builder, character sheet, or encounter builder. "
So they WILL see all the races, items and spells in the character creator.
Damn, tell them to shell out 40$ for a phb. It's literally one of the only things a player needs besides dice. 50$ one time, and you're set up for years of D&D.
I have 2 5e PHB (and 5 from 2e, and 3 from 3.5, and a copy of all the trash 4e phb's), almost every player I know has one. Just tell them to either chip in and buy one or two for the group, or each buy their own. The dm does enough, you shouldn't have to worry that they have what they need to play at the table.
A fair point @satansblade but sharing copies wouldn't be viable as we are going to be playing over the internet. Also, all of my players are new and there is a chance they may not enjoy DnD or stick around. So I would feel guilty forcing a $50 purchase from all my friends before session 1. If they take a liking to it, i'll implore them to get a copy of their own so they can learn more about the game

I was wondering the same thing.

Is that the same with all purchased content? I couldn't see why not.
