I don't have this problem (murderhobo players) but for all that do, I present you this thread. If you have a murderhobo player tell their story and get advice, if you're a pro forever DM then give advice. You welcome new DM's ;)
Easiest way to get rid of a murderhobo is in game consequences, town guards or even a widow or orphans who just had their dad killed.
If that fails take them aside and tell them to please stop.
If that fails you can always try a well placed assassin.
If all else fails...try to get them to leave the group (only if it's ruining players fun, fun is the point of the game)
That's just my advice though. (Also please don't swear on this thread. Really why do you need to swear to prove a point?)

Murder Hobo Help(a great place for new dm's to get help with murderhobos and a great place to share how you've delt with murderhobos)
I would say your advice is reasonable, except I would put "take them aside and tell them to please stop" as step 1. Do that before trying to enforce in-character consequences.

WOTC lies. We know that WOTC lies. WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. We know that WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. And still they lie.
Because of the above (a paraphrase from Orwell) I no longer post to the forums -- PM me if you need help or anything.

Right on. Don’t be accusatory or assume bad intent, since new players often don’t realize D&D is about collaborative storytelling and not a “do whatever” game like Skyrim. But be ready to take a hard line if the player doesn’t get it. Remember, other people’s fun is at stake, not just yours and the murderhobo’s.
Also, banishment to the wilds is a good way to deal with ex-murderhobos who you don’t want to kill outright. They can’t enter towns unless they (eventually) do some great service for the king or queen, while keeping a clean record!

Banishment is a great idea. Also having them do a great service can be a great plot hook. Thanks!

Great idea, you wisdom score is much higher than mine :).
Also it's good to remember that the murderhobos want to have fun too, but don't let them ruin it for everyone else. If they just enjoy killing low CR things then give them a easy encounter every once in a while, or you could let them hunt (animals not people btw).
