I'm setting up to run a weekly game for my family and was hoping to have everyone build their characters in DDB, then have the player-view maps/handouts/etc displayed on one big monitor while I have my DM view on my laptop.
I know there are ways to work remote, but I'm not sure how to make this set up work off-hand.
Your "player view" would be whatever PC applications you want to use to display that information; DDB won't help you with that.
VTT (virtual table top) is what a lot of people use for this sort of thing - some VTTs work well for a group in a single room, whilst others might only work well with everybody logged in on their own computers.
So one way to do this is to have two accounts for a VTT like Role20. Use one account as a player and the other as a DM. You may need to use different browsers for each account as well because session cookies can be weird and log you out of one account when you log into the other. Anyway, once you size your map on the big screen you don't need to touch it again. You can then run everything from your DM browser and only go back to the player screen if you need to zoom in/out the map view. Super simple.

If you were to use Roll20, you would have a GM layer in which to hide anything you didn't want players to see. Much easier in my opinion.
