As the title said, i had a small idea for an NPC for which im not fully sure how good it is, if yall got the time and want to, please do give your advice or rating of and to the npc please^^ (URL at the end Contains images i will reference to for the npc, cautiion for image 2 and following, while the images are only figures made in Heroforge, those images contain faces with missing eye and teeth, and a creepy face, also some have damaged skin and showing bone from beneath the skin)
Okay so! The Party is currently in an arena outside of the city, where creatures they 1 have met/know of and 2 has visited the arena themselves before, can be fought against, either on their level, or on the parties level, they seem to have liked the concept, and ofc they get some EXP for beating them for the first time on either level.
Now, the NPC, when the return to the market of the city, they will find aside from the merchants a new person, the person in the picture, not sure about the name yet, but my placeholder name is "Keymaster" currently, the idea is that he will be rather loud about his special products, and either the party approaches him, or when they walk past him to get to the rest of the city, he will walk up to them engaging in conversation, when they talk, he will lean towards one PC, and be like
"Friend, i think you misunderstand your purpose, what, do you think you should be the one in control of these little....how should i call it, chess pieces? Are you really right to control them, no, are you even in control?" And when the character asks what the hell he is talking about, he will just be like "Oh, pardon me, perhaps i was not clear enough but...." then, the narrative says that he turns his face at you (aka the player), and says "I wasn't talking to you, [character name]" while i show the face y'all can see in pic #2.
This is supposed to show that he seems to have knowledge of, well, that they are in a roleplay game, in DnD, or something similar... The next time they visit the market, he will be gone, he will sometimes be at random places on the parties journey, sometimes just simply talk to them, pretend as if he didnt know who they were, if they encounter him in the "wild" he will engage in combat, but never really harm the party unless to protect himself, and never attempt to drive anyone below 0 HP if he can, i am not 100% sure how he will fight, mabey something about the PCs, but that would be rather difficult to do, tho i dont wanna drop the idea, so imma think of something, if someone got an idea how he'll fight the players, please do tell!
In their "last encounter" he will be using the powers he was given by someone, perhaps his patron demon or something like that, a bit too much, like seen in pic 3-6, the more he uses the power, the more his body is taken over by his patrons magic, at the end, he will be fully taken over, fall over, look like in pic 7, and be like "I could neither save myself, nor y'all, i am sorry" or something similar... then slowly melt into the shadows, and dwell in the realm of his patron... The party, depending on how the campaign goes, might encounter him then in his patrons realm, like seen in pic 8, there, they can either kill him, or attempt to save him, like seen in the other 2 pics, when saved, he'll be like "You may control these innocent creatures....but at least you dont seem evil" or something along those lines, or when he is killed, his voice will whisper from around them 'Release them, beasts' or something like that...
if he is saved, he can be found in all market sections of the campaign, selling exotic artifacts in exchange for stuff like mana, life energy, or mabey other items, not sure, but he doesn't take gold that i know.
Yeah, that is roughly the idea behind this NPC, i personally really like him, do y'all got any advice or rating or any kinda comment on the idea? ^^
