I've read through the first chapter, I have an idea of how things are going to go, but I'm confused on the way things are going. In some instances of the chapter, it makes it seem like several nights could pass, the party spending at least a couple nights, especially considering how much there is to do at the carnival. But in other instances, it makes it seem like all of chapter one progresses in one night.
I'm sure I'd be fine homebrewing multiple nights, if the party really wanted to, but is the carnival intended to be one night?
Short question, I know, but I have found nary an answer to this yet, let alone the question itself. Maybe I'm just overthinking it lol
My interpretation was that if you as the DM feel like your party is enjoying themselves and wants to see the rest of the carnival, you can hold off on having them meet with Mr. Witch and Mr. Light, but if it seems like they want to move into the story, then you don't need to add a second day.
I consider the Carnival to be part of the Feywild itself, and time in the Feywild flows differently. It may speed up or slow down, or even go backwards at times. And in my game, it has done all that and more.

Met D&D in 1976 while in the Navy, learning Russian, and fell in love. We were steady for several years, then drifted apart and saw other people. Ran into each other a few years ago and the spark kinda rekindled, ya know? It’s an open relationship and I hang with GURPS and DragonQuest, but we’re all mutuals and it’s good. Open communication is the real key to any polydice, it’s the only real rule.
I think you've described it pretty well there. Haven't read the book (yet!) but I imagine it lasting one night lasting several nights seeming like one night several nights long is probably as feywild as it gets!
I feel like if your players all agree on how long it has been, and are correct, then you weren't confusing enough.
