I was curious to see what the general consensus is on how players should set their character attributes. As DMs, what do you feel is the best or ideal way to have players select their attributes?
Manually chosen to suit character design?
Rolled, and thus somewhat random?
Point buy system?
Personally, I kinda like the idea of rolling 3-5 groups and picking one group from among them to set attributes to. This way it's kinda random, but also gives freedom and room for characters a bit less... mundane, I guess?
But that's just my take on it. What do you all think?
How much power do you want the PC's to have relative to each other?
Using point buy or an array will give you PC's that are closely matched for stats.
Rolling for stats increases the likelihood for a wider variance from one to the other.
If you decide to let the players roll, I recommend giving them like five attempts or so to roll something that they feel happy with. If they still roll poorly then they can choose one of the other methods.
Let them play a character they enjoy. It is a game after all.

i personally use point buy, i allow players to roll if they wish.
i would steer away from multiple rolls... if some of the results don't work then what would be the point of rolling at all?
Jesus Saves!... Everyone else takes damage.
