Exactly what I want to do. :) Now I have a question for the ability checks. Do I determine the DC or is there something in the rules that I should read?

My tips are: take lots of notes, don't sweat it if you forget a rule, and try to make sure everyone at the table has fun. All you need to be a DM is an idea for a session you want to run. Other than that, it's just fleshing things out and picking up on what your players are doing to keep the narrative going.
As you prefer, D&D is the best game in the world for this reason. You can create your own game. If you don't have time or do not feel confident enough, you can play an official adventure.
For the maps, I usually use those published in offcial adventures and use them in my own game (since I can't draw a line straight...).
So about the skills of the different PC's are they written on the character sheets?
Yes in the character sheet there is the modifier for each skill and tag which say if you are proficient or not in that skill. To see what a skill specifically does, a PC should go hrough the PHB.
Not really sure about what you mean by Castle Ravenloft abilities, but it is up to the DM to decide if the players can pick abilities/features from other sourcebooks.
slashing is like being hit by a sword, slicing through you, piercing would be like an arrow hitting you and piercing into you, bludgeoning would be getting hit by a hammer or a blunt object. There are also things like fire, cold, lightning, psychic and more.
they are descriptions of the attack, some creatures/items give resistances and vulnerabilities to certain types of attacks.
How do you get a one-armed goblin out of a tree?
Wave!

I think go can go directly to the PHB, it is done well enough even for new players. In any case, for any doubts, we are here to help.

Only the PHB is necessary.
