Would it be too much like a video game if, let's say, this one player drives the story? Has an artifact that can do certain abilities. Then for the story itself, a Telltale type of storytelling will be implemented with cause and effect.
I would stay away from making one player the main character if you're playing with a group. But if you're running the game with only one player, go nuts. Just remember that you're better off not planning outcomes for every possibility.

I'm a newer DM always wanting to run my own game.
The question I have is;

Life is Strange? :)
This seem like a question for your players if they would enjoy this play style which is a different approach.
