SO i have this idea where the Party stumbles into a tavern and are mistaken for the heroes the city summoned to help them fight the evil clan attacking the city. The party, forced to act like they are the heroes because of the money they are offered Goes to a train attacked by the clan. inside they find the real heroes dead with the only survivor being their cat who will turn out to be a druid and the BBEG who is funding/controlling the evil clan. This is all i have right now and i would like some help expanding this to form my campaign. All input is valued Thank you.
Well one thing you should know is that you can't force your players to be the fake heroes. What I mean is that they there's always a chance they manage to convince the people of the town that they're not the heroes so you should have a contingency plan for if things go that way.
What exactly do you need help expanding? The world? Members of the evil clan? The BBEG's grand plan?
One plot point I can think of right now is maybe the "fake heroes" have to fight the undead "real heroes" at some point, perhaps with the help of an allied necromancer. Could be cause for drama.
If the BBEG druid isn't inside the train once the party go there, then maybe elude to him with a piece of cloth with a symbol laying nearby, or something indicated druidic magic was used here. Have players roll checks to determine such things.
Sorry if it's not very helpful, I find your idea interesting though.
Why is this actually so true in my last campaign 4 genocides in 3 sessions also EL_REY_ED how long do want it to go and what there are many factors but I would say to focus on what will happen along and combats
Plot twist: the original party was full of murder hobos and the druid is the only good one. (accurate in my experience)
FR!!!
Interested in the idea...but like @HelloTobi says, you probably should have a plan in case they decide they're not heroes. This does sound a bit like a railroad-ish idea, forcing them to go everywhere, so I'm thinking you should work on alternate options - so for the "we're not heroes! we're not worthy!" scenario, you have a clan attack on the tavern plan or smth like that.
Just be a bit more flexible based on what the characters do, and have fun! Seems like a cool idea.
