I'm planning on running vecna: eve of ruin for my four players, and I'm not sure if it will be too difficult for them. Yes, they will be using 5.5 rules, but I'm just not sure. Some of my players are infamous for making... Interesting choices, and I'm afraid that they will just try to brute force the whole thing. With many of the challenges (chapters 3, 6, and 8 especially), that would go very badly. My players are also not great at puzzles. Do you guys think it would be too difficult for them?

I'm just your everyday dungeon master. Ignore that jar full of souls. And those bones in the corner are just props, don't worry. I'm definitely NOT a lich. Definitely.
Yes, I like beholders. Yes, I curated an exquisite personality for commoner #2864. Yes, my catchphrase is "are you sure?"
I think if you are running it straight from the book, a party of 4 starting at level 10 should be able to handle most stuff in there.
Now, I am coming at this from the perspective of a DM who is getting ready to finish up Eve of Ruin with my group in the next two weeks or so. We've been at it for almost a year now. I've also been running this for 5 players with some homebrew magic items and some of my own additions to the story (wanted to give my PCs a personal connection for the whole story to really pull them in). I've had to buff a few encounters here and there, add an enemy or two, bump HP and AC for a few of the more boss-like ones, but it was nothing too difficult.
Just touching on the specific chapters you mentioned (3, 6, and 8), Chapter 3 wasn't that bad for this party in particular. The hertilod got them pretty good though at the end, and they actually ended up bringing the crew from the ship back to Sigil. Chapter 6, I took some liberties, and they ended up fighting Termini, Soth, and the dragon in the final encounter, and they very much enjoyed that challenge (as did I). And Chapter 8, I think Windfall was one of my favorite baddies throughout. Luckily for them, the rogue was very very good at Stealth, so they knocked out one of the areas real fast, and they did a good job avoiding, and not angering, any of the pit fiends. But Windfall did a real number on them, even at level 17.
Again, I think for 4 PCs, going straight from the book, you'll be good.
