So recently, my two youngest (5 and 6) have expressed wanting to join in for D&D, which is usually family-based, so it is in fact awesome that they're interested.
Now I need to find a campaign that will grab their attention and be relatively easy to follow, so I was thinking something along the lines of monster hunting with a story built up to a BBEG like a dragon or something that isn't too deep morally etc.
If anyone knows of any campaigns, official or not, that sound similar to this ,could you please let me know? I have plenty of time as it won't happen until after Christmas.
While this advice isn't what you asked for, if it were me, I'd simply create some basic plot points, and let your kids tell their own story, with you guiding them along they way. At 5&6, a story is what they want more than anything. Give them each a D20 and once in awhile have them roll on something simple so they associate the story you're involving them in with the idea that a game is involved too.
Monster hunting- Goblins or werewolves or something they know is evil. A guy n town asks them to get rid of them, and he'll pay them. Just keep the plot simple, don't add hidden layers, mnake things based on lore, and stay far away from puzzles, traps, riddles, etc. Let them get their way most of the time, let them befriend some creatures, and it should all work out.
