2 of 3 players in my group made a deal with i witch in a shop. This so they could get their hands on some popwerful items in time for a big sige-battle. They payed half the cost of the items up front, and the rest was to be payed after the battle: a severed hand, and some catfood (not hard to find in a big city during a sige) but when the battle began, they completly forgot about the deal, i dont think they intended on cheating the witch, but they simply forgot.
However, i want to teach them a lession. In my world, you NEVER back out of a deal with a witch! especially when there is a +2 warhammer in the deal.
The paladin in the party made the deal for the warhammer, in trade she would give the witch alot of gold, and a severed hand. (the hand must fit in a specific glove)
the barbarian wantet some armor (i dont know why, but thats what he wantet) he didnt have enough gold, but he made a deal with a cat in the shop. he would pay what little gold he had, but also bring the cat some catfood.
All the food the babarian eats from now on will turn to catfood in his mouth, and he will begin to suffer from exhaustion bechause of this,
The paladin will wake up after the next long rest and descover that, in her sleep, she has put the glove on, and her left hand is no longer hers. if she tries to use the warhammer in two hands, she will throw it away, and eventualy the hand will try to kill her.
I need help with how to resolve this. How many sessions should it take for them to 1: get the full deal. or 2 loose the items and fix the problems they now have gotten themselves in to.
Thank you! You gave me a lot of valuable information i can use! i have created a "puzzle Dungeon for them to lift the curse. They are at a fairly low level 5 considering the warhammer +2. i wantet a campaign with lots of magic items, i suspect the powercreep will get insaine, but thats ok.
There's a good chance your paladin may have broken his oath, depending on which oath they have taken, which should have consequences
Next thing I'd do is send them a snotty message informing them that payment is expected and that by not paying on time they have accrued interest, ( now you have them in a string for a quest working for the witch)
If they still don't keep their end of the bargain, then it's time for a right good old cursing with oozing pustules loss of charisma and dexterity
