So I have an idea for a plot hook for my 2 player campaign. So just a little info first. My players are a forest gnome wizard (divination), and a halfling ranger (gloom stalker). So they are very nature based. They are and can be in cities but they prefer the forest for their adventures. So I've made a race called "Sylfolk" which is basically a forest human society. And there is a corruption making them aggressive and work for something or someone else. Now I need help with finding out what could be the source behind this and what's it's goals. i was thinking a little something like Sondor the Betrayed, but erhhh. At the moment they are currently on another quest but I like to leave traces and small hints at future plot hooks. I'm really proud of this idea because it's really damn hard to make forest base plot hooks.
A few (somewhat) note worthy stuff: The normal sylfolk are vulnerable to fire, however corrupted are resistant. They life of course in the woods, having tribes n' stuff. Meaning most of them do not know common. (They speak elvish and sylvan, as well as druidic as they are born with a few druid spells. The corrupted loses the ability to speak druidic.) I have already done the here are 3 minions to the bad guy and you gotta kill them before you can get to the bad guy. Mostly because it was a good and quick way to have something for them to do but it gets so ******* stale very ******* quickly (warning to other DMs thinking of doing that more than once!) I'm hoping for it to be a mostly forest and underground base arc but really anything will do, as long as it fits with this I guess.
A idea I like is the have a mindflayer behind it. Maybe he is starting a new colony, and wants to turn the forest people into a defense slave force to protect him when he becomes a elder brain. Also humans make great stock to turn into mindflayers. Depending on the character level he could be a ordinary mindflayer, one of the elite midflayers that become elderbarins, or even a elder brain by the time the pcs find him.
Hexxus from Ferngully. A Toxic elemental encased by a construct who is poisoning their farms and water supply making them addled with a grab bag of mental diseases making them little more than berserker cannibals.
On a more dnd related version that isn't related to an animated Tim Curry, what if their society is being affected by the fey wild? It keeps shifting in and out over their village/town. When in the fey they are commanded by an archfey and driven mad that way, or performing some sort of ritual in order to get back to the mortal plane at the cost of a sacrifice. But when they come back very few remember what had happened during the plane shift. Those that do remember the townsfolk view as mad and have to be locked away as some of them had attacked the other villagers (as their family member(s) was sacrificed. Not big on fey beings, but I could easily imagine their would be a powerful archfey who could do something around those lines reasonable, just because they find it amusing or generally want the sacrifices.
If you need an evil forest themed creature, choose an evil druid. It could have been corrupted itself by a demon/devil, or is naturally evil. A circle of spores Druid would work. Another thing could be a feywild/shadowfell crossover, which is messing with the natives and wildlife. Or, a corruption from within. One of them becomes evil, and comes to power in their tribe. The possibilities for an evil creature are immense, as even Cthulhu could be behind it all.
I was thinking of an evil druid yes. A druid of malar, the beast lord. That could be pretty damn ******* awesome! I was thinking a mix between Delilah Brigmore and an evil druid.

Not a bad idea! Thank you! ^^
Not a bad idea either. I really like the Feywild, and my player who plays the forest gnome wizard he also loves the feywild! ^^
