So I am thinking of making a general rule that heavy armor requires a wait time to purchase. This is because much of it has to be customized to the character wearing the armor.
Something like the below:
Ring Mail fitted: 1d4 days created: 1d4 weeks
Chain Mail fitted: 1d6 days created: 1d6 weeks
Splint fitted: 1d8 days created: 1d8 weeks
Plate fitted: 1d10 days created: 1d10 weeks
What does anyone think? I like the idea of putting things in place to 'slow down' the game. For example, while the party paladin is waiting for his looted plate to be fitted the group would have the opportunity to role play in town. Maybe get involved with the local guilds or nobles. Sounds more fun than the players just using city's and town's as places to sell and buy stuff before heading out on the next quest or dungeon raid.
I was also thinking of something similar for medium armor. Maybe 1 day to be fitted and 1d4 days to make for the whole category of medium armors. I might include light armors in that as well.
If it makes sense sure. But heaviest of heavy armor is rarely custom made to fit though. and stuff like chainmail is also one or two sizes to fit all. Having the armors be on a delayed timer in my opinion has more to do with how much the store potentially has in stock. In my campaign the city is prepping for a war behind the curtains. This means they're mass producing at the moment. However there is a limited supply of some things for the general public. That influences whether players have to wait or can get stuff.
