Hi, it's my first time DMing so I need a little advice.
So I have a 6 player campaign coming up in LMoP and my players are mostly playing the starter characters except 1 that really really wanted to play a 6 inch tall pixie wizzard. As part of the character class I ended up agreeing to a flying speed of 30ft and free use of invisibility twice a day, because it's cool and thematic.
[LMoP SPOILERS]:
They should be exploring Cragmaw Hideout next session and I'm afraid the scouting abilities of this character will be overpowering inside the cavern since the noise from the running river will make him impossible to detect.
I can either let it happen... Or I was thinking of a little something to disrupt it.
I can have Nezznar put up an invisibility detecting spell at the entrance of the cave but that seems unrealistic for a simple goblinoid hideout. Maybe there is a Goblin Booyah (The one that is holding Sildar Hostage) that is protecting the hideout with such a spell?
While they are walking on the goblin trail they all hear a big BOOM and 1 strong gust of wind blows uniformly accross the forest. The point of origin is somewhere far from the southeast (Wave Echo Cave?) and magic users can feel a disruption in magic. This would be caused by someone screwing around and trying dangerous experiments at the spell forge maybe? Trying to bring back a drought of magic to gain power or something? Anyways, the effects of the BOOM: Concentration spells would now require a spellcasting dice roll to stay focused every 2-3 actions or else the dips energy make you less consistent... So light spells would dim for a second, invisibility would fade for a second and etc... The effect of this would persist for at least a couple days. This gives me another month or 2 to develop a good plot to why this is happening.
It should be fine. The PC still needs to make Stealth checks, but can make them with advantage. The wolves can still smell the PC - it would cancel out the advantage on Stealth checks for those areas.
Since the party is just starting, maybe consider giving the invisibility one use per day. Then when the PC levels up to 4 or 5, get another use per day.

I was just thinking that there is no way that other creatures could hear the pixie because of sound of water in the cave, so no need for stealth checks... Is there a reason to why the Pixie should stealth check at all?
Okay, so finally here is what I decided to do: -The pixie hovers, doesn't fly. -The pixie will be a re-flavored gnome, so it will gain access to the Fade Away racial feat at lvl 4 instead of starting with invisibility!

Thanks for your suggestions.

I like the wolves idea, hadn't considered it.
