This is my first ever run campaign as a new DM. But I had an interesting idea to give one of my players a magic item that grows with them. I called it an Emerald Clover which as the names implies is just a small 4-leaf clover that's made of emeralds. It's meant for a Paladin of the Ancients and the idea is that it feeds of joy, happiness, and kindness and I have a plan for it long term.
What I'm struggling with now is what kind of magical benefits it gives to the Paladin. I know that I want it to grow and get stronger as the Paladin levels up past certain thresholds. What are some good ideas you think might work? I was thinking of a small burst of healing, a special smite, etc? Throw some ideas my way, any bit helps.
All I ask is that whatever effect you suggest scales like this.
1-5:He can hear his god more clearly, so he gains advantage when he needs to stand against a evil force. 6-10: He can see his god more clearly, so he gain advantage Vs. corruption. 11-15: The mind of the Paladin is directly bonded with his god. He gain advantage in charisma saving throws. 16-20: The soul of the Paladin is directly bonded with his god. He gain double damage and advantage in every test Vs. evil forces.
If you have access to the DMG, there is a legendary sword called a Moonblade that you could mode this after. It comes with a large table of powers that it can have depending on how long it has been around.

Make it senate, make sure it's a personalty the players would feel comfortable with. Like unbiased warrior. Also give it something like the ability to move on it's own like a flying mace.
