I invited a couple of Friends to a Halloween one shot, they are not going to play, just watch, but i would like to involve them In some way, any ideas ?
I was thinking maybe give them 1d4 or a 1d6 and allow them to add or sustract that to a roll, or allow them to give " Guidance" to the players.
In last instance, I would ask them to assist me with keeping tracks of numbers or maybe change the music when we change of scene haha.
If everything else fails, I hope at least to give them a good performance of this " horror " game in Castle Ravenloft :P ( playing strahd must die tonight )
If your friends aren't too shy about taking part, maybe make up a little deck of random spooky haunted-house background effects, and every now and them have one of them draw a card and either read it or in some cases, if they want, actually act it out.
Stuff like:
You hear the sound of a wolf howling in the distance.
A door suddenly slams shut. (Let the non player pick any open door on the map to close.)
You hear a sudden burst of insane laughter.
A huge battle axe drops from nowhere and sticks into the floor with a thunk, barely missing _____. (As soon as somebody tries to touch it, it vanishes.)
A black cat walks casually into the room, says, "Oh, it's just you guys," and disappears.

I’ve done something like this where I had the people watching roll dice for me in and out of combat, for traps, etc. Astalda just gave some really good ideas—you can let them do harmless things in the environment that add flavor but don’t change the party or add characters.

Had this happen. Couple of people wanted to come and watch the rest of us to see what it was all about. Said nope and had them bring a character along. Then worked up a way to bring them into connection with the group.
They are now still playing and having a good time. So when if they just want to watch. Have a character ready for them to jump in once that itch gets them.

Yes, i'm just know working in putting together the " sidekicks " caracter sheets to be like " hey ... if you want to play here i have a character ready and easy to use... just saying "
You could get them to maybe voice act an NPC and let them decide the NPC's actions. You can of course still roll for the npc's, but it would be super fun if you told them what the npc did and they acted it out.

According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyway because bees don't care what humans think is impossible.

You can let them roll damage for Strahd. :)

That's a great idea !
