Trying to figure out what the point is of creating a campaign on the D&D Beyond site? I had thought I would be able to add purchased Adventures to it, but it looks like all you can do is "Add Characters" and make some "notes". Am I missing something?
I haven't used it, but from what I've seen on a thread like this, it's just organization. Knowing who's in the campaign, being able to see their sheets, and having notes of whats going on.
You can share content, even the adventure book(s). But I would NEVER share the adventure book... that is giving the players the keys to the kingdom.
The campaign feature is great for sharing character sheets with the DM (as a DM, I can say say this is far better than getting copies of sheets). But it also allows everyone to “pool” their content resources. If Arnie has the PHB and Ben has XGE they can share those sources in the campaign allowing them to create characters they might otherwise not be able to do.
As the DM, I was able to share the Haunted One background for my players for CoS without needing to make copies from a book.
I have a world map uploaded in mine, I use it to add items to my PCs, list general information, share content. I find it quite useful. But yeah it’d be cool if there were more features, I think stuff like that will be coming in the future when they have their own VTT.
As a DM is there a way to create characters and assign them to others before running a game? I've created several - but don't see an obvious way to assign them to others.
When you go into the campaign, there should be a button at the top that says "content management" and if you click it, you can turn on or off sharing of each book you own.

WOTC lies. We know that WOTC lies. WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. We know that WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. And still they lie.
Because of the above (a paraphrase from Orwell) I no longer post to the forums -- PM me if you need help or anything.
So when I ran a test encounter in my campaign I see two characters I created previously; these are not assigned to the campaign however. I can't see a way to remove their connection to the campaign. Any ideas on how to fix?
In this day and age of covid driven remote sessions it is really useful, as well as being able to share content across your group (I have a friend who isn't part of my campaign but has added a character to it so we have access to all his stuff as well and I have done likewise) and as a DM have full access to every character sheet, there is also a dice roller that allows you to roll against your stats in the app and everyone can see the roll, the encounter builder is currently in Beta testing and in Alpha testing is allowing the GM to roll monster rolls and track hit points, not sure when that is coming for general use. In addition if you use Discord you can install Avrae, which is now owned by DnD beyond, and link your campaign to your discord in game channel. That means your players rolls in DnD beyond all show up in Discord.
What it is missing is a more detailed Campaign Builder allowing for different pages and files for the DM to manage the campaign.
Quick question, How does one share content (I'm DM, by the way)?
Someone in the party (doesn't have to be the DM) has to have full paid for membership this then alows them ot turn content sharing on and all players and the DM, whatever tier they are on, can then share content within the campaign. Something to be aware of though, you can only share it in the campaign so as a DM I am finding I have to buy the monsters from the monster manual myself for the encounter builder even though I can read the manual on DnD beyond as a member of our party has it.
To expand on the OP from a year ago, is there a way to use a purchased Adventure in the Campaign setting?
I used a code from the Essentials Kit for Dragon of Icespire Peak and I have a digital copy of the adventure, but I've been trying to build it into the Campaign, encounter by encounter, and it is slightly annoying. Am I missing something? I feel like owning an Adventure should have all these encounters built right in so you just add your players and run with it all on D&D Beyond. Is that not the case or am I missing where I can do this?
You need to have a master tier subscription to enable content sharing. As long as one member of the party has one and can enable it then everyone has access to all the purchased content throughout the group.

Also known as CrafterB and DankMemer.
Here, have some homebrew classes! Subclasses to? Why not races. Feats, feats as well. I have a lot of magic items. Lastly I got monsters, fun, fun times.

So you can't really play in it? You can't upload maps or anything, only organize sheets? I'm a bit disappointed.

Thanks!
When you create an unassigned character the player is the one that claims it.
So if I Invite players to the campaign via email they can take any of my unassigned players?
Yep, anyone in your campaign can claim an unassigned character.

Select deactivate. Then select remove.
Homebrew races and classes can be shared easily has been the biggest plus for me

I have d&d beyond on my phone, and can you make a campaign on it? I don't have membership
