Hey everyone, I'm currently trying to make a campaign in the Ravnica setting but I'm having a rough time trying to put one together since it's my first one ever.
I've got a adventure idea involving either the the Izzet League and/or the Simic Combine scientists hiring the players to find rare ingredients or help with their experiments somehow. I need help with fleshing out the idea into a playable campaign but don't know what else I need to do it.
Any suggestions to help guide or even just to give me better structure to make this?
*EDIT* Campaign has been created with the theme of a fetch quest style setup for the Izzet League.
**EDIT** As of 07/18/2022 I've removed the link to request access to view the campaign. Since no one was actually helping or leaving comments/suggestions as requested I've decided to take the option away.
You're asking a lot of someone with this question. I'll tell you a couple things that I hope can help.
1. Just do- Just start writing the adventure. You never what will happen or what ideas will come from ideas. Just start writing something whether you like the idea or not, whether you can't think of anything. Just start writing something.
2. Give yourself a break - You say it is your first campaign ever? Don't be hard on yourself, you are not going to create a masterpiece this time. Accept this fact and just make something. Nobody is good at something their first time, it doesn't matter what advice anyone gives you. Just do not be hard on yourself or down on yourself because it is difficult at first.
3. Copy - Don't be afraid to copy stuff. It is a great way to learn. Look up adventures online that other people have done with Izzet League or Simic Combine and take what they did and put your own flavor and twist to it.
4. How to videos and articles - Not everyone responds to the same methods of teaching. Keep looking for the how-to videos and articles that speak to you. These are the ones that speak to me and it took me awhile to find the right ones to teach myself.
It might also be worth running the level 1 adventure that comes with the Guildmaster's Guide first just to get a sense of things, and then maybe branch off from there.
GGR also has a great section about designing quests based around the different guilds, including suggesting traits for villains, motivations, and other useful things to flesh out. The main thrust though is that a lot of conflict in Ravnica exists where guild interests overlap and their members are left squabbling for power. My first Ravnica adventure was over the Azorious trying to elbow their way in on a Boros-protected neighborhood, claiming they'd been mismanaging it for years. This increased bout of law and order in the neighborhood resulted in increased Gruul protesting, as the neighborhood was on the edge of the rubblebelt, and the players had to navigate riotous streets in order to clear the name of one of the regulars at the bar they owned who was arrested by mistake for attacking an Azorious enforcer in all the chaos. Have your starting point be conflict between two or more guilds, in your case it could be the Izzet and Simic, figure out how that conflict would effect your neighborhood/players, give the conflict a villain or two, then fill in the blanks with encounters and such.
Finally, I can't endorse Cozmo's advice highly enough, especially for someone writing their first campaign. If you see something you like in a book or a movie that you wish could be in your campaign, feel free to steal it. Even better, steal multiple things from different sources, and by the time you've welded them together, they might come out looking and feeling unique!
Thanks for the suggestions and elaborating on them a bit more in detail. I was also considering using the Krenko starter campaign to help as a guide for setting up my own continuation.
*EDIT* Campaign has been created with the theme of a fetch quest style setup for the Izzet League.
If anyone still wants to give their advice, suggestions, or help please check out here as I've finally made the basis for the campaign and love to have advice to help when offered.

This is certainly more helpful than every other time I've asked for help and gotten either no response or a vague answer that's useless.
