I feel anything classical sounding works nicely for a dragon. Names like Artaxerxes, Caligula, Cambyses, Cyaxeres, Cyrus, Croesus, Darius, Leonidas, Tiberius, Victrix, etc. What I feel is more fun is a long list of titles. With the exception of silver specimens, dragons are extremely prideful, and a bunch of long titles gives this effect and also gives the players a sense of the dragons character even before they meet. Anything involving fire, political power, teeth, or all of the above works ok. For example: Victrix Firetooth, Many Scaled Lord of the Underground Duchie and Thrice-Blessed Prince of The Rushing Maw. Sound ok?
There is a table of dragon names in Fizban's Treasury of Dragons, you may want to check that out if possible.
But in my worlds, dragons actually have several names. They have their true, draconic name, and a common name. The common name is merely a translation of the draconic name, which means that dragons could also have elvish, dwarvish, or even goblin names.
One idea for a common name is two use a two-word formula. You could do "Adjective + Body Part," "Noun + Adjective," "Noun + Body Part," or other variations. For example, the green dragon "Venomfang" from LMoP is a combination of the words "Venom" and "Fang." "Cryovain", the white dragon from DoIP, is a combination of "Cryo" and "Vain."
For a red dragon, you could do "Brandhide," "Fumewing," "Crimsonfang," or something similar.
As for the true name, either consult the dragon name generator in Fizban's, find one online, or just throw the common name into Google Translate a few times.
(I think that pairing an adjective with a noun makes a good dragon name, but something a verb and a noun go well together too, like with Striketalon)

The Nerd Queen! Minty (me) vs Yvonne (SpiderQueenYvonne)... how will we work this out? POSSIBLE Arachnid Queen Imma nerdy nonbinary YouTuber who lives on Earth, quick summary for ya. (No my channel is not under this username lol) I ADMIT IT: I am two hundred thirty-three years old. Me rn: darn it- can't think of how to design this stupid signature.
To put it out there, Draconic is a very strong and harsh language with a harsh r sound. So something like "Ravagore" (my white dragon as an example) or "Raishan" (Critical Role green dragon). Other names include:
Smaug,
Thalbek,
Lazaro,
lemashtu,
Trestafira,
Umbrasyl,
Grendel (for a white dragon),
Kalemvor,
Tamirah,
Volthangrom
and finally, Abaddon.
Hope this can still help other DM's. Most of the names I made up.
I give my dragons the simplest possible names... Ing, Wyn, Min, Una. They've got no need to impress you. They were here first. They'll still be here when your bones are dust.
just a bunch of links to name generators from english, so depending on where you want your dragon to be, it could have dwarvish or even a celestial name.
Who said Dragon names have to be weird and wonderful. I have had a tarquin terroise a town, a Brenda offer sage advice and a Barry be a big bad before now :)
But seriously, dragons named after Greek mythological figures sounds quite fearsome. A dragon named "Kronos the Devourer" or something like that would definitely strike fear into a player's heart. The dragon who attacked the town given by Scarlock actually has a decent name, for a copper dragon that is.
Not saying "Bob" or "Paul" is entirely useless, you can probably put those names as human forms for metallic dragons. "Scarlock" is a decent name, too.
Ravagore is titled Lord of the Icy Peaks but I think that's quite a common title for a white dragon.
Overall, Bob is a good alias for a dragon's humanoid form, but not the true dragon. Barry is also nice for a metallic dragon's humanoid form.
Bloodglitter(Red Dragon). I envision this dragon as red ground color and gold speckled. Venomolech or Venommolech a Green Dragon. Ember a Red Dragon. Troquemada a Fire Dragon(as in the Dragons of Summer Flame).
I just want to point out that if you stop using dragons, this stops being an issue. I got bored of dragons long ago - but before that, I used a dragon name for any group of players that hadn't heard it before: Skizz - which is short for Aaszkizzlyar the terrible. Which, by the way, is always a three-headed dragon, because frigg your resistances.
These days dragons are always either extinct - or they are phenomenal. As in, they're Icemaw, The Dragon of Winter, or Granite, the Bedrock. Gale, the Dragon of Storms. You get it. So they're unique, not tied to the stupid chromatic thing - and, well, also actually immortal.

Blanket disclaimer: I only ever state opinion. But I can sound terribly dogmatic - so if you feel I'm trying to tell you what to think, I'm really not, I swear. I'm telling you what I think, that's all.
This is a fun thread! I love all the creative dragon name suggestions. The idea of giving dragons ordinary human names like Bob is hilarious and could be a great twist! Definitely gonna steal some of these for my next campaign. And I know a fantastic tool to generate name for that.
I’m making a character and I was just looking for a good dragon not a funny joke but I was pleasantly surprised
ALSO DEFINITELY NOT STEALING

The blue dragon BBEG in my campaign is named Azur.
BoringBard's long and tedious posts somehow manage to enrapture audiences. How? Because he used Charm Person, the #1 bard spell!
He/him pronouns. Call me Bard. PROUD NERD!

Let's name a fearsome, ancient red dragon, Bob the Breaker!
I agree. Nothing strikes fear into the heart of players like "Paul" the ancient white wyrm.
Aut Inveniam Viam Aut Faciam (Find a way or make one) - Hannibal Allegedly
Lessons learned in blood are not soon forgotten. - Clyde Shelton
The truth is not what you want it to be; it is what it is and you must bow to it's power or live a lie. -Miyamoto Musashi
