So I have always had loved magic items when I was a player so when I ran my first group i could not wait to give them magic items. So what is your stance on magic items and how many magic items do you give your party at a time?
I typically work by the magic item table in the DMG. Other than that, i've put them in a campaign where the enemies they're tracking have been collecting magic items to fence, so they're getting a few more than usual.
I give out whatever makes sense, whenever it makes sense... which varies pretty significantly from campaign to campaign and setting to setting.
More often than not, what I hand out runs pretty close to what the DMG suggests in regards to amount of treasure rolls, and uses the random tables (with "no one can use that, I'll re-roll" fiat as needed so that nothing is ever regarded as useless by the characters/players) in the DMG to figure out what the items will be.
