I have a level 6 Paladin of Tyr in my group, and I’m thinking about giving him a shield that will level with him as he becomes more devout. To measure this, I was going to have a checklist of some kind that had Tyr related quests, so establishing justice around the world. My problem is I don’t know what kind of quests game well. I would like to avoid farming quests of just killing 5 goblins.
Avoid quests about "Killing the big bad monster". Instead have him make hard choices that show how devout he is in the faith. Maybe there is a murderer who is scheduled for execution and your paladin has the honor of beheading him. But when he meets the murderer in the cells, he is repentant, and he laments that he had no other choice. Under the laws of justice, the murderer must be killed. Eye for an Eye, Life for a Life. If he kills the culprit, it shows just how much he believes in his god, and thus his shield gains a level. If you want something more action-packed, Maybe the leader of a Hob-goblin tribe has killed an NPC that the party knew well, and justice must be served. But the tribe itself has done nothing wrong, so if you kill the tribe defending the leader, you are unjustly killing. So you must take out the leader without killing anyone else.
