Hello! I am a newish DM and I am going to be starting a Tower if God themed campaign next week! I am really excited as I made homebrew races and a new class system for it so that the players can essentially multi class without having to give up any level ups.
While to make it realistic I made the tower 100 floors rather than 200 that most likely exist in the comic, I am having trouble coming up with various tests they can take it each of the different floors. I know that the every floot that ends in 5 will be a somewhat semi boss and which you face other npc groups in a battle Royal and every multiple if 10 will be a huge boss monster, but I’m having trouble I’m thinking of different challenges and test they can take aside from that. Though I am taking some inspiration from survival game comics, shows, and what they have In the comic Im basing this off of for the 20ish floors I’ve planned for so far, I’d love some ideas from fellow on some possible tests for different floors from GMs if you are willing to help out!
I feel like 100 unique and interesting floors might be tough ask to come up with and keep all 100 of them engaging. It would be worth looking at the overall story and drawing inspiration from that e.g. what is the reason for these 'tests' at each floor? who made this tower? what do they want? Getting into the mind of the maker may help you sculpt your floors and your challenges.
Here's some ideas I'm chucking your way regardless:
In the later floors they come across a group of climbers from years past, who have now formed a small society here as they are unable to progress
Maybe every 10/20 floors they get an audience with the maker for a very brief time, or some other social encounter to act as a contrasting rest from action
A floor with climbers who have gone mad from their struggle
A floor which has somehow got a crack within it, mixing with the next floor
A floor where competitors face their greatest fears
A maze
A floor with a previous climber determined to stop anyone else from passing
A floor with an ongoing war
Maybe some darker/shifted versions of earlier floors later down the line
Recurring boss that keeps coming back stronger
Hope this can help inspire at least something for your campaign. WIsh you all the best of luck, sounds like a cool concept!
