So I have recently played Persona 5 Strikers and wanted to make a D&D campain based of of the Persona series.
Thus I ran into a problem. I have been a player for serveral years now, but this is my first time DMing and I'm trying to decide how to work a Persona User at seen in Persona 5 and Persona 5 Strikers So far I have 3 ideas.
1st idea: I make a Custom Class that has the desired mechanics built right in
2nd idea: I select a handful of classes from the offical material then implament a the rules and mechanics to structure play.
3rd idea: Since a Persona User is very similar to a Warlock I make a Sub Class that incorperates as much as I can of the desired mechanics. Then finish what I was not able to put in the subclass with campian mechanics.
I guess to sum things up, I am looking for help deciding which way I listed above would be the the best to fit with the Campain and not be overly challenging for a new DM (dispite having a lot of experance as a player).
I had been thinking about making one too (but with so many ideas, not all of them come to fruition). Option #2 sounds like a solid idea. Here were my thoughts on it (feel free to take what you want from it, since I likely won't be running it ever T_T):
PCs are non-magic classes and subclasses (Barbarian, Fighter, Monk Ranger [modfied], and/or Rogue)
Start PCs at level 3 so you can regulate allowed subclasses before starting the campaign
Since Ranger is kind of magicky, make certain spells as class traits with limits (like the Fighter and Combat Maneuvers)
Levelling up to level 4 will get them to awaken their Persona
Persona levels are half the PC level
You as them DM would create the Personas (since that's part of the fun of getting a "random" power in the games)
Create the Personas based on a theme (P3: Life and Death; P4: Investigation; P5: Vigilante Justice)
Use magic classes for the Personas (Bard, Cleric, Druid, Sorcerer, and/or Wizard)
You decide which spells can be learned, to help regulate power balance and atmosphere
Summoning a Persona should have a cost, since it's essentially adding another initiative to combat, making it longer
To summon, a User must sacrifice 1/4 of their Max HP
Users can utilize spells/abilities of their Personas without summoning them
Roll d6 for damage cost, increase at later levels, to your discretion
Depending on the number of players, gradually bring them into the campaign, one at a time.
Each time you bring someone in the campaign, they will level up to level 4, which awakens their Persona
Everyone can see it at the same time, so it'll help build anticipation when the others finally get theirs
Throw in "Awakening" and "Combat" music when they summon (idk, it's the edgelord in me that really digs this concept from P5)
Hopefully these concepts help. If they don't I'm just glad an opportunity was given for me to voice these ideas. In any case, once you start running, please feel free to let me know how it goes (totally jealous of your chance to run this campaign, but I'm definitely super stoked for you ^_^). Good luck on your endeavor and wishing you nothing but the best!!!
Oh boy let me tell you I am a pretty heavy edge lord with certain ideas and this story is going to be edge lord heavy. Plus I have the Persona 5 & P5S sound tracks so I am in business for kick ass music.

That's good to hear. I'm sure your players are going to really dig it then ^_^
