I was thinking of changing True strike and wanted to know what you think.
Keep it the same as Cannon but add line "If you chose to brandish a weapon in the spell’s casting, you make a melee attack with it against one creature within 5 feet of you. (This still counts as concentration) "
This make it so you can still use it as normal but if you want you can still use a weapon to make 1 attack. I think this would make it a contender with Booming Blade and Green flame blade but not something OP. What do you all think?
True stike : advantage on attack, no extra damage other then possible crit. (can not keep concentration on other spells)
BB: Only extra damage if they move, Higher level effectly multi (weaker) sword hits and damage if move.
GF: Hits nearby person for extra damage, Higher level effectly multi (weaker) sword hits and hits a person.

Would be amazing for rouge casters! you can proc sneak attack without having to use anything but your cantrip.
Overall would turn it from the single worst spell in the game to possibly a top tier one in the right build.
Another way to make it usable is to say it takes a Bonus action to cast so you can still do normal things (or attack something else) if you don't attack the true strike target immediately that turn.

I was afraid as a bounus it makes even more powerfull combos like a high level casting it and then still getting multi attack. Like this it limits it to only 1 attack. Also I was afraid caster may start combining it with Booming blade.
P.S. I did not even think about the rogue sneak attack.
to fix a spell you need to know what makes it bad... in the case of true strike... there is multiple problems which many other cantrips don't have.
so heres the spell...
LEVEL
Cantrip
CASTING TIME
1 Action
RANGE/AREA
30 ft
COMPONENTS
S
DURATION
Concentration 1 Round
SCHOOL
Divination
ATTACK/SAVE
None
DAMAGE/EFFECT
Foreknowledge
You point a finger at a target in range. Your magic grants you a brief insight into the target's defenses. On your next turn, you gain advantage on your first attack roll against the target, provided that this spell hasn't ended.
ok, the first thing we see that is a problem is the concentration part. it means that to do a simple cantrip, something your character is supposedly have it easy to do. becomes something he needs to fully dedicate concentration on. i can understand guidance being something since its duration is over a single turn. but concentration on something that will be gone next turn. thats bullshit ! so basically true strike has the same problem that all the smite spells for paladin has.
the biggest problem with true strike is the following words...
On your next turn,
this means you are casting a cantrip, that is gonna be used next turn only. thus you are losing a precious action economy just get advantage on 1 single attack. rogues gets it with hide, every turns, as a bonus action. barbarians, gets it on all their attacks, every turns... you are meaning to tell me, a cantrip cannot help a wizard or sorcerer or warlock or bard... to do the same thing ?
the last problem is the fact that true strike is an action... you ar elosing literally an action, the biggest thing in d&d just to do what ? nothing for a turn !
all these are the reasons why true strike sucks. let's solve this now that we know...
we want true strike to be a viable option comparable to the other archetypes that allows advantage on their attacks. the first thing we'll do is drop the words that makes no sense... so using true strikes, now allows you to use it on the same turn. so the spell already looks like this...
"You point a finger at a target in range. Your magic grants you a brief insight into the target's defenses. You gain advantage on your first attack roll against the target, provided that this spell hasn't ended."
now this is useless unless you are a sorcerer and cast another spell as a bonus action now... all other classes still thinks this spell sucks. now remove concentration and we get the very same problem. the spell still sucks because losing an action... so the next thing to solve is... to make it a bonus action... this gives all classes that can use it... an actual option.
if you want it to be balanced... you can stop here... so now, you can cast it as a bonus action and it is usable right now. but still is balanced cause its concentration and thus cannot work with invisibility, greater invisibility, haste or things of the sort.
i did the same treatment to blade ward and now my players thinks before not using them.

so litteraly do the thing already suggested on post 3 of this thread
bonus action casting of it is a bit op, you can cast it every single turn for constant advantage.
so does barbarian and rogues ! so why wouldn'T casters be able to do it as well ?

So you want to make the power difference between martials and casters even larger?
Besides, both of those have detriments (attacks against you have advantage, having to hide...)

I made this. True Strike (improved version).
So it works kinda like the help action, but with the following changes.
Overall, I feel it's pretty balanced.

your way is also quite good.

yeah the only real problems appear if your an EK (elderitch knight) or bladesinger.
so does barbarian and rogues !
so why wouldn'T casters be able to do it as well ?
