We all know the Rogue Assassination ability us pretty powerful, but sometimes players want to do more then just a bunch of damage and hope its enough to kill their target. Even then what if the Ranger wants to snipe someone from a distance? A bard of whispers wanting to poison someone during a show?
What sort of rules do you use? Have you made your own?
These are the questions i want to focus on as I plan to make my own sort of assassination rule for all classes to use (with giving the good ol' assassin subclass a bonus to it) and am curious what folks already have.
I think it comes down to the situation, as the GM, you have control over what happens, you have the option of letting a player instantly kill an enemy if you choose to let it happen. For poison, it can be a special and rare poison, they only have enough for one dose, and it has the same effect as Powe Word Kill, for a traditional throat and dagger approach, just specify want to kill them, and if it makes sense as an instant kill, let it happen, maybe roll stealth before hand too, for a long range shot, impose disadvantage or a -x penalty to the roll, since for an instant kill they'll have to target a specific part of the body. Do whatever works best for the story.
