I'm currently transferring the content from the Plane Shift: Innistrad doc that Wizards released a while back and at the moment I'm encountering a problem with setting the Kessig Human sub-race's base speed to 40. This is the first time I've tried making a HB sub-race so I'm not sure whether the error is something I've done or overlooked, or whether it's a tech issue that's otherwise out of my hands... I've tried a few things out and gotten nowhere so help would be appreciated.
If you're seeing 5ft as your speed, I would guess that's the encumbrance rules kicking in! Try toggling off encumbrance on the options page for that character.
Thanks for the responses I needed this as well. The Set type threw me off at first, because I was trying to use Speed Reduction. Then I chose Innate Speed which doesn't appear to do anything in the builder from what I can tell, but Speed worked.
Are you able to make the bonus speed of a subclass "equal to walking speed"? I am trying to give a subclass a bonus swimming speed equal to walking speed but can only put fixed value of "30" in. But if somebody picks wood elf, for example, then their swim speed will be 30 and walking 35.
Hey, I haven't seen anything that allows me to set another speed equal to a player's walking speed. I have to manually modify it for my players if they obtain something that creates the effect of gaining another speed equal to their walking speed.
I do this one of two ways depending on the circumstances. If it's an item that I only plan on having one of I will set the swimming speed to whatever their walking speed is, but if its something several of my players will get I'll write that it gives a swimming speed equal to their walking speed, but not actually add a swimming speed on the item. Instead I override speeds on their sheet and in the source I put the items name.

Yo,
I'm currently transferring the content from the Plane Shift: Innistrad doc that Wizards released a while back and at the moment I'm encountering a problem with setting the Kessig Human sub-race's base speed to 40. This is the first time I've tried making a HB sub-race so I'm not sure whether the error is something I've done or overlooked, or whether it's a tech issue that's otherwise out of my hands... Thanks in advance!
Here's a link to the sub-race so far, it's still private though so idk who'll be able to see it. https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/subraces/27472-kessig
Hey! I played around with subraces and I think I figured out what you want!
Create a Racial Trait
Name it
Describe it
Create Modifier
Modifier type -> Set
Modifier subtype -> Speed (walking)
Fixed value -> 40
Alternatively you can do the same thing, but
Modifier type -> Bonus
Modifier subtype -> Speed (walking)
Fixed value -> 10
Bonus will add that modifier to the main race, while set will just set it as the fixed value.
Hi there M0lly,
the modifier you are looking for is:
Modifier Type: Set
Modifier Subtype: Innate Speed (Walking)
Fixed Value: 40

Thank you! I'll do that now :)
Hey again,
Turns out that's what I've got and I'm still seeing 5ft as my base speed in the sheet. Anything else I could try?
Thanks for the help so far!

Ohhh that makes sense — that particular character has a bag of holding so yeah, she's the party pack horse haha! Thanks for pointing that out!
Yep, that worked! Thanks again 😅
