Hello everyone, I want to post a house rule that a friend of mine came up with, and I have also been using in games I DM. I would like your feedback on this.
When a character is dropped to 0 hit points but is not killed outright, they begin rolling death saving throws as usual, and a single point of healing can save them completely. With this rule, when a character drops to 0 hit points, they keep track of the excess amount of damage they would have taken. This adds up no matter how many times they drop to 0 hit points, and if this excess damage reaches a number equal to the character's hit point maximum they die instantly. This excess damage is reset to 0 after finishing a long rest.
What do you people think, is it okay or does it need some kind of tweak?
