One of my player ( Assassin) , really like poison, and i'm searching a simple way to add a really simple poison. Here my proposal :
** UNSTABLE TOXIN**
After finishing a long rest, if you are an Assassin or have the Poisoner feat, you can spend 1 hour crafting a number of Toxin doses equal to your Proficiency Bonus. These toxins lose potency and are destroyed after 24 hours.
Each dose can be used to coat one slashing or piercing weapon, or up to three pieces of ammunition. Applying the toxin takes 1 Action.
When crafting the toxin, roll a Nature check to determine its potency. Use the following table:
Nature Check
Toxin Damage
0–9
No extra damage
10–14
+1d4 poison damage
15–19
+1d8 poison damage
20–24
+2d8 poison damage
25–29
+3d8 poison damage
30+
+4d8 poison damage
Creatures immune to poison are treated as resistant to this damage, and they automatically succeed on the saving throw.
When a creature takes damage from a weapon or ammunition coated in your toxin, they must make a Constitution saving throw with a DC equal to:
8 + your Dexterity or Intelligence modifier (your choice) + your Proficiency Bonus . On a failed save, the creature gains the Poisoned condition for 1 minute
*****
I try to fix the issue with all creature immune considering that they could be immuned to the poison condition and resistant to damaged. Instead of the Nature Check, i also was thinking of a linear progression 1D4 under level 5 , 1d8 from 5 to 9 etc.... In order to avoid player having an unimaginable amount of toxin, they destroy themself after 24h.
Alternatively i though also :
*** RULES ***
1-
If you are proficient with a Poisoner’s Kit, when using a poison you may instead use a DC equal to : 8 + your Dexterity or Intelligence modifier (your choice) + your Proficiency Bonus.
2-
If you have the Poisoner feat or are a level 13 Assassin, creatures that are immune to poison are only immune to the poisoned condition. They are still affected by poison damage from your attacks, although they are considered resistant to the damage.
**Question **
What are you thoughts ?
Do you think the two simple Rules are better than creating a poison ?
In the unstable toxin do you think the scale is fare ? Do you think a scale based on Player level should be better ?
