I'm trying to creat a spell to stand in for the bite attack on this stat block, but I'm not sure there is a way to scale damage by spell level without assigning die. It reads "Bites.Melee Attack Roll: Bonus equals your spell attack modifier, reach 0 ft. Hit: 2d6 + 1 + the spell’s level Piercing damage."
Just to clarify: are you trying to create a homebrew spell that summons a creature, and you want the creature's stats to be dependent on the spell's level? Or are you trying to create a homebrew spell that does the same thing as this creature's attack?
If it's the former, that's not possible in the current homebrew system.
If it's the latter, you can find the options for it by clicking on the "At Higher Levels" button. Spells typically scale damage by adding a die per level rather than the level as a fixed amount, but it's capable of doing either.
I'm specifically trying to create a spell that stands in for the bite action on a stat block for the the vermin swarm from the Grim Hallow suppliment.
The way that it works out is you summon a swarm of rats by using magic action and a spell slot to summon swarms equal to the expended spell slots level.
Those rats have an attack action that reads "Bites.Melee Attack Roll: Bonus equals your spell attack modifier, reach 0 ft. Hit: 2d6 + 1 + the spell’s level Piercing damage."
"the spell's level" is specifically referencing the spell slot you burn during the magic action to originally summon the rats.
Since the die amount doesn't change at higher levels, but instead there is simply a modifer that increases based on the spell slot that was originally used to summon the rats, I don't think I can get it to work.

Any experts have suggestions?
