I am starting a campaign and I was given this by one of my players as a sort of custom subclass, and I wished to ask the community what they thought about it since this is my first DM'd campaign and I dont have much of an idea of how balanced (or not) that it is. I am somewhat worried that this -might- be too strong when coupled with the fighter class, but I am not too sure.
As an action, you can summon a magical battle standard, which can be placed within 5 ft of you. You can only summon a certain amount of standards, as outlined in the leveling table. Standards are regained when you take a long rest.
The standard lasts for 1 minute, and only 1 standard can be active at a time. The standard has an effect range of 10 feet and a size of medium.
You and allies within the effect of the battle standard gain a recurring 1 temporary hp. This goes up to 2hp at 15.
Enemies can attack the standard to destroy it. The standard has an AC of 10 and 20 HP. The HP of the standard goes up 10 at each level improvement – 7, 10, 15, 18 – up to a total of 60 HP.
------7------ Guardian of the Standard
As long as you are in the effect of the standard, the standard gains +1 AC. The AC of the standard goes up 1 at each level improvement – 10, 15, 18 – up to a total of +4 AC
If an enemy within 5ft of you attacks the standard, you can use your reaction to attack that enemy.
------10------ Quaking Impact
When you place the standard, enemies within the standards effect must succeed on a strength or dexterity saving throw. The DC for this effect is equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength modifier. If an enemy fails, they are knocked prone.
------15------ Thunderous Impact
When you place the standard, enemies within the standards effect area take 4d6 damage.
------18------ Inspirational Presence
So long as you are within the effect of the battle standard, you and your allies within the standards effect each gain +2 on saving throws.
Nice! This looks pretty good, but I would suggest a few things:
On Battle standard, I would change the description of the temporary hit points to the following: "At the start of your turn, you and any allies within range of the standard gain 1 temporary hit point. At 15th level, this is raised to two temporary hit points."
I think that you are scaling Guardian of the Standard too much. 7th level features aren't usually supposed to give that much combat advantage. I would suggest getting rid of the AC boost, (maybe moving it to a different level) and keeping the reaction attack as well as adding some out of combat feature, like a bonus to persuasion.
Finally, Thunderous Impact needs a damage type. Based on the description, I would say make it thunder damage.

Yeah, it probably will. Just don't make the 7th level feature have too much combat power, and give the subclass something for identity besides the Standard. Give it some out of combat ability.

They did some re-evaluating of the suggestions you provided and this is what they spat back at me.

The standard has an effect range of 10 feet, and lasts for 1 minute. The standard has a size of medium, and only 1 standard can be active at a time. A standard cannot be placed if a standard already exists.

Encouraging Aura
When the standard is placed, you and allies within the effect of the battle standard gain 1 temporary hit point.
The standard repeats this effect at the beginning of each of your turns. The temporary hit points granted are increased to 2 at level 10 and 3 at level 18.
------7------ Guardian of the Standard
If an enemy within 5ft of you attacks the standard, you can use your reaction to attack that enemy.
------10------ Stoic Guardian
If you are within the effect of the standard, the standard gains +2AC. This is increased to +3AC at level 18.
------15------ Forceful Impact
When you place the standard, enemies within the standards effect must make Str or Dex saving throws. If they succeed, they take 1d6 damage. If they fail, they take 2d6 and are knocked prone. If the creature has a size larger than you, this effect will not knock them prone.
When making a saving throw for this effect, the DC is equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your strength modifier.
------18------ Inspirational Presence
You and allies within the standards effect each gain +2 on saving throws.
Really good, I think this is balanced. I have nothing else to say other than role-play this well and be creative, because this doesn't't give you any out of combat abilities.

Okay, he apparently decided to do major changes again despite the suggestions that were given. I asked him to just give me his finalized version of what he wanted and here it is, I suppose. I am having second thoughts about allowing customized subclasses in my campaigns.

Standard.
Sorry, I'm leaving now.
Looking for new subclasses, spells, magic items, feats, and races? Opinions welcome :)

I mean, it seems fine, but if things get too complicated, don't allow your players to make their own subclasses. You are the DM.
That being said, it seems balanced.
